Surprised no one has mentioned him as a potential candidate. Do people not like him, not think he would come here? what's your thoughts?

I don't think he would leave unlv for ou. He likes living in vegas.

I wouldn't either at this point in his career. He's in a decent conference but not one as tough as the Big 12, can land solid recruits in an area that produces good talent, and win and compete for NCAA bids. He's already done the big conference and NBA and now UNLV seems like a good fit. Plus, he lives in Vegas. Nice.

guys Jeff is not going anywhere he will get one more year and then if it stays the same he is gone

Mountain West Conference this year is pretty stacked...UNLV, San Diego State, BYU and New Mexico. Possibly looking at four tourney teams if a high major conference fails to step up.

As for Kruger, can't see him leaving. Honestly feel if he was interested in leaving, would have already done so. Never know, maybe he gets the itch again to move up.

He has a sweet setup and lifestyle in Vegas. He would not leave unless it was an elite job.

I'd love Kruger and if he brings Steve Henson with him that is even better.

So, even if we finish 0-16 in Big 12 play and only win 6-8 games, he still comes back next year?

C'mon Chewy...I know you have good sources, but please tell me you don't know this for sure and are just speculating? Please tell me he could still be gone after this year. Please.

This is something that would never be expressed in the administration, but if JC stays it is simply a money deal. Basketball is behind in the pecking order of things and we just gave him a more expensive deal and extension, so they could try to keep this thing on life support for another year and hope we don't die on the table.

Reverse the scenario and say Stoops came in and had a 7-5 record that showed some improvement. They strike gold with a Bradford and make a title run and fall short, but is followed by defections of perceived top players and two losing seasons. What happens?

Stoops has won championships, capel hasn't. Stoops can have a 7-5 year and will never be fired. Don't compare what if scenarios between stoops and capel, stoops knows how to run a program, capel doesn't.

Exactly, stoops has made a name for himself and won here at OU...on a consistent basis...There is no comparison here
If Capel had been here 8 years and already had 5 or 6 really good years I am sure these last two years wouldnt be so bad. But the fact is noone knows what he can do because he hasnt done much

I probably didn't make my scenario clear....I meant if the same exact scenario happened in football at OU like it has in basketball. Take away Stoops winning a title. If Stoops would have came in and performed much like we have seen with JC. The trigger would be pulled. The admin..in my opinion, will slow play this thing for the sake of dollars.

I don't see how they can afford to take that chance. As much as we are paying the football coaches and coaches of other sports, they need the revenue the basketball program has been creating over the past 20 years to help pay those bills.

If they slow play this and allow Capel to stay one more year, they are taking a huge chance that could really burn them in the arse.

If this team makes a turnaround and we finish 15-15 or maybe 13-16 and win 4-5 conference games, I could stomach one more year but if we finish 8-25 or 6-27 with ZERO or 1 conference wins, he has to go. I can't imagine the athletic department has already decided to allow him one more year when they don't know what could happen this season and immediately after (donors refusing to buy tickets/pay donor fees).

Looking at the totality of the circumstances, I think they started gambling when they decided to go "young and unknown" at a lower price. They then were faced with gambling again when JC got heat after the Blake years and we had to up the stakes. Now, with the turn of events, we are faced with the final gamble.
I know OU wants to win in all sports but the sense of urgency doesn't seem apparent. Maybe the ncaa thing is complicating matters...can't be helping.

True. Maybe if the NCAA thing finds Capel at fault, he could be let go without getting any of whats remaining on the contract.

If Capel is implicated and they allow him to remain on staff in his current capacity, then our AD is a certified moron. I'm not ready to call him one yet, but if this happens I won't be able to resist.

How is talk about replacement coaches good for our current coaches and players?

Who cares? It's not like any of them come here anyway.

Besides, they have to know their job is on the line and time is running out. It's the nature of the business. If they want to work for a company happy with sub-par results, then they can apply for a job with the government.
