One of my best friends graduated from Miss State and is a huge state basketball fan on the level that we all are here. I asked him about Osby and he said he is a complete mystery. Said he everyone thought he and vanardo (s) were the best two athletes and players on the team, but for some reason Osby never played much and didn't seem to do much when he played.

He said he is a legit "big" man (he says at least 6'8) that is a perimeter man with perimeter skills. He thinks he can play the 3 at OU. He said he comes across as smart and really hustles when he plays. He said that he and his buddies could never figure out why he wasn't more productive and why he didn't play more. Their theory was that the coach wanted him to be a back to the basket interior player and Osby didn't want to be that or refused to be that.

He said he didn't know what his stats were but that he can absolutely shoot lights out from the 3 and generally has great offensive skills, not that he seemed to use them much. Bottom line is that he is sorry to see him go and will always wonder why he didn't pan out for them. They were sure excited when he signed with them.

So all in all, this probably doesn't add much to what everyone knows but just thought I would add it to the mix. Frankly, I really don't know what to think about his transfer. Sounds like he has some potential, but may not be the good "inside" player I had hoped for. I'll just trust Jeff on this one and hope he pans out. By all accounts, he is a very good kid that will play hard.

Sounds like he may be a solid player as a hybrid "4" that seems to be all around our conference right now. Wish he could play immediately.

Hope there is no truth to that, we recently dealt with those types...

Yeah, that could be a tiny problem...

However, it also said that he is smart and hustles and I dont know if you could categorize some of our players that way last year. If he does hustle let him play on the perimeter.

I get the impression that Osby fits into what Capel wants in a 4 as a versatile guy to play the 4-1 (i.e. Duke, Villanova, Michigan, etc). Thompson also fits the bill in that regard. If is his limited back to the basket on offense that isn't that big of a deal in my opinion. The bigger question for me is he willing to play tough defense down low and rebound. If he does that stuff then I have issue with guys like Osby or Thompson playing outside and not posting up as much offensively.

Thats what I love about CJ is that he loves defense and rebounding!

Yeah, that could be a tiny problem...

Tiny led the team in rebounds..as a true freshman. He was still learning to be a back to the basket guy.

if we had another big guy then a guy like tiny or osby will flourish at the 4. If you need an example think back to ace mcghee and his mediocre first season. Now compare that to his sr season when he had help from jabahri brown downlow..complete 180

+1. I can see Osby having a Taylor Griffin-type career: Good character guy that may start off slow, but once he finds his niche he can become a quality player in this league.

For whatever reason, it seems Stansbury alienates a lot of his players at Miss. State, because he has had a myriad of transfers throughout his tenure there. Osby has the skill set to be a good player, and I think this new start can do just that for him.

I thought Tiny had a very good freshman year. I probably just have lower expectations for freshmen, all freshmen, than most. The adage that would apply to Tiny's situation is that the "best thing about freshmen is that they become sophmores".

I think if Tiny could and would have come back next year, he would have been a very different and improved player. If he would have stayed for 3-4 years, and worked hard, I could have seen him becoming a real star. The kid has immense talent in my opinion, it just hasn't been developed or tapped yet. I wouldn't be suprised to see him do well in the NBA, although I don't think it is certain that will happen. He is big, skilled and, mainly, he can shoot the ball. These traits will give him a good chance to make a living playing ball.
