Who Were the Officials in this Game?

I love that they have 6 guys on the floor and the PG still never passes the ball

By far the best part.

Can't believe this was allowed to happen and to top it off, Western Kentucky fired their coach after the game. One of the officials is pretty big time, works for the Sun Belt, C-USA, ACC and Big East.

I seem to remember this happening in an OU game at home. The opponent started w/ 6 players after a timeout and the official noticed it and had them take someone out. The fans were po'd that a technical wasn't issued.

that sounds familiar

Would have to see the video, but it is the official's job to ensure the proper amount of people are on the floor. Generally isn't a technical unless someone runs off the sideline while the play is live or the ball has been released onto the court. Also if it happened at OU, would have been the home scoretable's fault as well.

Are you sure about that, Campbest?

Seems to me that's a violation of the basic rules of basketball, meaning five players on each team. If a sixth player is on the floor when the clock is running, he's violating that rule. I'm reasonably sure that a technical would have been called if it had been caught in time.

I have never had to deal with a situation like this before. But common sense tells me there is something seriously wrong with having more players on the floor than your opponent. :)

That's what I mean, basically the clock has to be running. Furthermore, if the infraction is not caught until the next dead ball and the player then leaves the floor, there is no technical.

This is way I remember the situation in our game: There was a timeout. When the time out ended and the teams took the floor again, the opponent had 6 players on the court. The offical handed the ball to the player to throw in. He threw it in and within 10 seconds or so, the 6th player was noticed. The official stopped the game, the opponent took their extra player off of the court and the offical allowd play to resume.

I don't know who noticed the 6th player first, the fans, the offical or someone at the scorer's table. But there was no technical called and the fans were peeved.

That should of been a tech then, unless the player somehow got off the court before the game was stopped or officials knew.

I'm thinking that maybe the official noticed b/f the played inbounded the ball but was already given the ball and stopped play

Got it. That's how I see it, too.

Hard to believe that no one noticed the extra player? We both know that fans in the stands don't miss a thing. :ez-laugh:

Not only do fans in the stands not miss a thing, sometimes, they see things that aren't there! ;)

Don't I know it!

Fans back in the day never understood the over-and-back rule. Some things never change. Most still don't have a clue. lol

On a totally unrelated note, did you see the flagarant foul video from the internet. A heavy set high school is basically throwing kids to the floor and the refs are just calling fouls. I don't know how the officials expect to keep control of a game when they allow things like that to happen. It would be an intentional foul in the NBA.
