Why the love for Buzz, Terry

One could just as easily muse that about Rose. Or Marshall, if he had ever made such a run.

Neither of them have coached at a tradition rich school. They do more with less IMO. Rose started winning before he got Jimmer and made it to the sweet 16 this year without a key contributor on his team. BYU could possibly be playing for the title this year if they had all their pieces.

Dave Rose has NEVER lost 10 games at BYU (in 6 years)! That's impressive.

One could say this is a negative on a resume, if one wanted to break down a resume line by line.

I would say that doing more with less is impressive on a resume. At the end of the day we will agree to disagree. However, I honestly believe that Buzz is "fool's gold". I think he's a decent coach but I think his ceiling is lower than Marshall's or Rose.

It's moot. Buzz is the best we can do.

Also, coaching changes are all about hype. Who knows who the better coach is...there is probably little difference with most...but if recruits and the gen pub and fan base think a guy is hot, then he is hot...until he blows it.

It's not scientific.

IMO no they couldn't. Have watched BYU play probably about a dozen times this year (once in person) and even with Davies they aren't good enough to be playing for a title. New Mexico ran BYU off the floor with Davies in the line-up.

BYU really missed Loyd Jr. this year, he would have given them a different pace and allowed Jimmer to get some easier looks.

Of course Buzz is going to have more losses than Rose per year. Look at the conference schedules!! Good grief. Do you think BYU could hang in the Big East? Or get out with less than 10 losses a year? come on.

I don't understand. Not saying it is wrong but I need to hear the logic.

The only exposure to Div I basketball for Evans is as an OU player. We all loved him but I would think he should have some Div I experience at least as an assistant in a big program to be ready for OU.

Marquette is in the Sweet Sixteen but they didn't have a great season. They lost all of their key out of conference games to Duke, Georgia, Wisconsin and Vanderbuilt.

Looking at the Marquette site he gets raves as a recruiter, all but three years as an assistant. He has been at Marquette four years, two as an assistant. His current recruiting class consists of 1 4* and 2 3*. Clearly a colorful high energy guy. And I understand the local ties. I'm not sure that counts for a lot at a big program like OU.

Knowing that you were a Capel lover I'm sure you will be critical of whomever we are interested in. The good part is no matter who it is it will be better than Capel.

well, I totally disagree with your statement about Jeff Capel and I am not agreement with the "get Buzz at any cost" group...I am not impressed with him...just because a person is from around this area does not a good coach make.

See: Terry Evans

I am still undecided about Evans...I probably could accept him before Buzz.. could be just because everyone doesn't think he walks on water like Tex Buzz seems to...

Good because Capel is unemployed now. So who is right???

I was a Sampson supporter.

I had hopes for Capel but was never quite comfortable with him because of the player defections, big beatdowns, and late season collapses. I was usually pretty quiet in the debate except for objecting to the history revisions about Sampson in an attempt to portray him as a bad coach.

My question is that while Buzz has a pretty good resume why is he suddenly head and shoulders above all the other potential candidates. And I don't buy into the "he's from the area and a good fit". OU is in the national picture even with the current state of the team and they don't have to have a person from the area.

I'm not against Buzz. Just wonder why he seems to be the only candidate most are interested in.

Haven't really seen a good answer to this yet.
-From the area= not a prerequisite of a great coach
-Team plays hard= lots of teams do
-stresses defense= lots of coaches do

NC glad you defined that. I don't think anyone knows how many candidates are involved, but Williams ability to recruit Texas and his roots being in N Texas are certainly appealing. I would hope we make a run at Stevens at Butler too.

By the way I too was a Sampson supporter.
