Why the love for Buzz, Terry

Knowing that you were a Capel lover I'm sure you will be critical of whomever we are interested in. The good part is no matter who it is it will be better than Capel.

What a shocker that someone would use another thread to bad mout Capel. GET OVER IT...HE IS GONE!!!

I was a Sampson supporter.

I had hopes for Capel but was never quite comfortable with him because of the player defections, big beatdowns, and late season collapses. I was usually pretty quiet in the debate except for objecting to the history revisions about Sampson in an attempt to portray him as a bad coach.

My question is that while Buzz has a pretty good resume why is he suddenly head and shoulders above all the other potential candidates. And I don't buy into the "he's from the area and a good fit". OU is in the national picture even with the current state of the team and they don't have to have a person from the area.

I'm not against Buzz. Just wonder why he seems to be the only candidate most are interested in.

SoonerinNC....I think Buzz's familiarity with Texas recruiting carries a lot of weight in the choice. I don't think he is the end all be all of candidates myself...but I think Texas recruiting would be a good start.

I would honestly love to find a guy with true Oklahoma ties that would be a good fit.......but who would that be, other than Terry Evans?

Neither of them have coached at a tradition rich school. They do more with less IMO. Rose started winning before he got Jimmer and made it to the sweet 16 this year without a key contributor on his team. BYU could possibly be playing for the title this year if they had all their pieces.

Could say the same about Terry. I don't know much about Buzz, but Terry has zero money to recuirt and has an all Oklahoma -1 Roster. Wouldn't you like a coach to snag the top players from our state and grab some talent from Texas every year? Plus he has developed every program into a winning one. MWC and then UCO. Players love him and he can recruit.

(Waiting for greenbug to throw out the lack of D-I experience to just about everything said about Terry.)

Another point, when I was training with Terry he stressed being a good shooter. I know his teams run a fastpaced offense but if you can't shoot at least 30% from three, you won't shoot them. He had 8 guys on his roster this year above 30 and 3 guys above 40 percent. OU had 4 guys above 30 and only one above 40 percent. (And you could say zero about 40 but Nick Thompson was counted 9-20 from beyond the arc)

This argument really wasn't about Terry. I just can't understand the obsession with Buzz. I am a huge fan of T. Evans. I loved watching his teams play at MWC. I'm kind of like a lot of people on here when it comes to him. I would like to see him spend some time at the D-1 level as an assistant or head coach at a smaller school. I wouldn't mind seeing him as our future head coach.

I think comparing the defensive abilities to a DII conference compared to the Big XII is a bit extreme.
