Wichita State

The post game conference is live on soonersports.com TV for free.

Wichita's coach was pretty good in the news conference.

In the news conference, Sherri made an interesting observation about Portia. She said last year, Portia didn't have the luxury that the freshmen now have. Every minute was life or death last year (I assume due to lack of depth). This year, everyone is getting some time to play when it isn't that much pressure. Could have taken T'Ona out at the end of the first half and put Morgan in, and the first half would have ended better. But, T'Ona needs to learn that. She thought it was Griffin's best game as a rebounder, clearing space on both ends of the floor.

Morgan did shoot the free throws left-handed because Sherri said she could after her right hand was injured a little. She hit them both. She said it is because she practiced so much in HS with both hands.

Sharane says she likes layups. Doesn't particularly care about attention.

Frustrating game to watch with all the fouls. We got that 24 point lead mid way through the first half and then got loose with the ball. The rest of the game yoyo'd from 9 to 20 point lead.

We noticed when Harden got so many points by driving, and she was getting fouled. But, that's actually how we got the lead in the first place. Sharane was driving in the first half. Harden was 8 of 16 for 24. Sharane was 7 of 13 for 24. Harden was 8 of 9 from the line while Sharance was 9 of 9. Sharane hit a three. Sharane had six rebounds to Harden's 4. Harden had a couple of assists. Basically, they cancelled each other out.

In the press conference, Morgan said they were guarding at the three point line. So, we went inside. We certainly did.

We also had a lot more second chance points.

I'll be glad when Kornet starts showing some offense. Defensively, she looks pretty good but she has to contribute on the offensive end too.

Griffin played 21 minutes. Kay Kay played 11. Between them, they had nine fouls. I kind of thought that they missed the call on at least two.

Wichita St was not going to allow our guards to shoot uncontested 3s. Sharane and Morgan decided to take it to the rim and made them pay. That's where athleticism makes a huge difference.

Our kids played well today. Too many turnovers, for sure, but the huge margin in rebounds more than made up for that. Wichita State is an athletic team, especially with Harden. But at no time did it feel to me like OU wasn't the best team on the floor.

Some criticism of our freshmen has been posted in the last few days, but these kids – Carter, T.T., et al, will become very big contributors and most of them are farther along at this stage of their careers than just about any freshmen we've had for the last three or four years.

I don't know that anyone is disappointed we have Carter or Edwards. I think they are further along than Gibbs and Kellogg but who knows what will happen a year from now.

Well. We thought we would be a great three point shooting team that would have problems rebounding. Thus far, we have outrebounded Stetson 55-43 and Wichita 54-30. On the other hand, our three point shooting is................

Outrebounding Stetson and Wichita St. doesn't tell us much. We will know more when we play better teams. However, our 3 pt shooting speaks for itself and is a concern, at least for now.

We've played probably 2 NCAA teams, albeit mid majors, and even though we have a lot returning, we have a lot of new players. This team is going to be so much better in January for having played in the WNIT. This is much better than playing Central Ark or another similar team. I'm not sure we'll win this tournament, especially with Louisville, but we'll be a much better team in February /March for this experience.

Gonzaga only beat Idaho 64-56 in the first round. The difference is that they shot 52% in this game, and only 32% against Idaho. They shot 15% from three against Idaho and 50% against Martin. They were 10-11 from the free throw line against Martin, and only shot 59% against Idaho.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game today.

Loved what I saw out of Kay-Kay. Campbell. She's the rock this year.

Carter and Edwards. Really some of the best additions in a long time.

Griffin looks motivated again this year.

Morgan is just a steady Eddie.

It was good to see Campbell and Griffin come alive yesterday. We need to see both become consistent and play aggressively like that the rest of the year.

Aaryn is the dynamite for this team but Morgan lights the fuse.

Kaylon is looking really good. Needs to control the fouls.

I'm not ready to go all in for Carter and Edwards just yet. I see potential in both but they still play like typical freshmen much of the time. However, I do love they fact we have them for depth. With Maddie and Peyton sitting this year we need them badly.

It was good to see Portia grab some rebounds yesterday.

We will have a better idea of what this team is capable of when we play the Zags.

What has impressed me so far this early in the season is how well the youngsters have meshed with the vets. It really doesn't matter the competition we have played, it matters how solid the kids are fundamentally, how well they understand the offense, and defense, and how well they understand their roles on the team. Obviously Kaylon has stepped up where she left off before her injury, and is actually playing better. Gioya and T'Ona are a breath of fresh air. They are both D-I ready and are quite capable of giving our guards needed rest. Derica and Shaya don't make a lot of dumb mistakes and hold their own when called upon. As we move forward, these kids are going to be more than helpful in their roles, especially if there are more games with officials calling things tight and we have foul problems. Having an extra 4 or 5 kids that can come in and not have a drastic drop off, will pay huge dividends later on the season. The WNIT is a nice trial by fire for the newbies, and so far they have done well. I can't wait for the competition to ramp up to see how the kids handle the situations.

Agree with most of what's been posted. This team has a lot of potential and the freshmen are showing why Sherri brought them to OU. Yes, three-point shooting has been a disappointment so far, especially Aaryn's. But I'm confident the treys will start falling soon. We've got some really good shooters on this team, even though they haven't shown it – yet.

Aaryn is 9-19 from 3....the rest of the team is 2-24.

I think we learned quite a lot last night about this team. WSU was a very athletic team and had several players who could play on this OU team. They were very well coached, played hard every position, and were a NCAA tourney team last year, and we beat the tar out of them. So I'd say a lot of info about this team was gained for the COACHES.
