Will Trae Stay or Go?

No, you and a slim minority that have some conception of Trae being bigger than the program. You think a 65 year old hall of fame coach is being kowtowed by a 19 year old who will be gone in 2 weeks, and it's just laughable. Trae works his ass off, and has produced big results for an otherwise thoroughly mediocre team. His only crime is that he played too well the first couple months of the season, and the regression to the mean has been painful.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

But it is pretty obvious that Lon is handcuffed and made some promises to get Trae to come here.

The comments coming from the coaching staff and Trae are pretty ridiculous

And it is just as obvious that Trae doesn't care about this program...its a stepping stone to the NBA. Which is fine I guess. But some effort or sincerity would be appreciated

Well said Sperry --- These are my thoughts as well. To each his own, I guess.

Hopefully, Trae looks long term and sees that he needs another year to become the best he can be and not short term, e.g. goes for the money regardless of whether it will help him the most as a basketball player.

Trae and his dad sure seem, and talk like, level headed people.

JMO, but I think "basketball development" wise, Trae would benefit by another year of college ball under Lon. However, if he can make the big bucks this year, salary and endorsements, I sure wouldn't blame him, and would actually encourage him, to go pro. The future is just so uncertain for everyone to pass up golden opportunities. This being said, if he gets information that he has fallen to the back half of the draft, it might be in his interest to come back, develop, and go next year.

The thing they still don't realize is that we are supportive of OU over a freshman player. Especially one that comes in as a self proclaimed savior, ruins chemistry, starts playing bad, sulks, and still doesn't change the things that need to change for the team to be successful.

They think Trae is OU basketball. He isn't

THIS.

Couldn't agree more.

Jay Bilas on #Sooners: "(Trae Young) has a lot on his shoulders. His teammates are good.I hope this doesn’t sound disrespectful at all, but all of his teammates can do one thing each. So they are a lot easier to limit than the casual observer might think."

More Bilas: "For those that wanted (Trae Young) to be Steph Curry at his best every night, Steph Curry wasn’t Steph Curry every night when he was in college. People seem to forget this: When Steph Curry was at Davidson, he did not go to the tournament his junior year."

Yeah, I posted it to another thread already, but since you brought it up, here's more from Jay Bilas on OU and OSU.

There have been OU players, in the fairly recent past, that averaged more minutes per game. This really shouldn't be a big deal, especially since TY doesn't play defense. He is 19.

How will he make it through a NBA season if he can’t make it through a college season.

Lol. Did you do any research to back up this theory?
Did you look at his shooting percentage for the season??? Low 40's for overall and low 30's for 3's, compare that to Buddy's shooting percentages his senior year.... Trae had a great 1st half of a season... he has not performed well or led his team to victories the last half of the season...

He should run TO THE NBA like his hair is on fire LOL. He will not be double teamed in the NBA AND when he makes those beautiful passes those pros will finish and they will LOVE playing with TY.

The family isn't happy with the fans. They think we are to critical and not supportive of him.

Whatever would give them that impression?

I guess they've been to ouhoops.com as well.

You know, it's so funny that I've read so many times here how awful landthieves is (was?). I've only been once or twice. I wonder if the same people who destroyed that site are the ones who started showing up here within the last month.

Sounds about right coming from you. Thankfully, your takes don't represent the overwhelming majority of Sooner fans.

Right. Either he's just lying through his teeth or he has no idea what the word "self-proclaimed" means. Trae never proclaimed himself to be a savior. Many here called him a savior but he never said that of himself.

Last night was pretty much the perfect representation of how much better Trae is than his teammates.

Trae's offensive rating last night was 90 -- his 5th lowest of the season.

He may not have outright said it, but he tweeted after a loss (paraphrasing) "Don't worry guys, help is on the way" and then not long after that he or his dad made a public statement that he would be a starter from day 1.

I don't get this. Yes he scores, but he turns the ball over and takes a lot of shots to score. His shooting percentages have been BAD for half the season.
He continues to get a free pass from you some of you guys yet others get drug through the mud. its this same sentiment that is causing suspected lockerroom issues. I'm sure the other guys can't wait for trae to move on

So you correlate that with him calling himself "savior"? Come on.

that combined with his attitude and me, me, me comments throughout the year....yes

He had it in his mind that he was going to come in and save the program. He failed

Well, if they make the tournament then it is a step up from last year.

And since you hate Trae, you are seeing things that aren't there or making them up to fit your opinion.

funny, at the game last night I was sitting with a coaching friend (form Arizona) his son wanted to see TY play...

his comment after the game was why does TY just stand under the bucket for like 10 seconds after he drives and misses the shot while everyone else hustles back on defense...

I posted how crappy the game went, nothing major and my cousin who coaches NAIA ball said that NNorth qualified for State, something they never did with TY there...true? (referring to TEAM ball)

He had some great games and even last night without him it's worse, I'm torn, I think some of the issues have to do with chemistry..as sad as that sounds.

I actually think he'll do decent in the NBA.

Him standing under the basket after a miss is one thing that has miffed me throughout the year (10 seconds is obviously hyperbole).

Norman North played in the state finals his junior year. They lost to Tulsa Union.

i don't hate trae. He is a kid. but i do hate what he has done to this team and program. he seems to think he is bigger than the program. he isn't

he is in for a reality check if this attitude continues into the nba next year.

I will be rooting for him in the NBA...i just don't like this brand of basketball and using OU to get to the nba
