Anyone that can't see how important Woodard is to this team is nuts. He needs to keep playing well, no doubt. However, they stall terribly without him at the helm. Defensively, he calls all switches for the guards as well...I get tired of people not knowing the game. Great first half by our men!

When he plays well, OU is very good to excellent.

He did that in tonight's game. Since Jordan got beat up on a thread last week when he was being compared to Forte, I thought some of you might be interested in their stats from tonight's game.

Forte: 11 points on 3 of 11 shooting from the field (0-5 from three); 5 of 5 from the free throw line; 1 rebound, 1 steal, 4 assists and 2 turnovers.

Woodard: 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field (1 of 1 from three); 2 of 3 from the free throw line; 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 assists and 3 turnovers.

If you go strictly by the stats, Jordan outplayed Forte in nearly every category. And, yes, I know that doesn't happen in every game. Forte was the victim of the meat grinder defense OU played to keep him in check tonight. Still, I thought it was only appropriate to give Woodard his due. He played well tonight!

Jordan Woodard is a mensch. He does the unselfish work on both ends of the floor, and I think the derision he receives from some members of the board is silly. Small sample size errors, confirmation bias, etc. Does he hit all his free throws? Is he a constant threat from 3? Whatever.

Our dude. Is. A. SOPHOMORE this year. And he's already in the conversation for top-4 PG in the Big 12. Good on Jordan for asserting his skills over Forte and Hickey. He needs that kind of recognition from his fans.

Woodard had been playing about as bad as he possibly could, and he was deserving of the criticism.

After a very good overall performance last night, Woodard deserves to be recognized! Way to go, Jordan! Hoping that was the start of a massive shooting percentage correction!

I'll post something I put on SoonerScoop last night in an attempt to respond to some criticism of Woodard:

Comment:
I swear to god, if that man waits to get passed the half court line with 1 second left before a turnover I'm going to blow my brains out. Also, Spangler needs to stop shooting 3s.

My Response:
Woodard actually had one of his better offensive games tonight with 13 points (on 5-7 shooting), 5 boards, 4 assists, while only turning the ball over 3 times. My favorite play he made all night, was the full court pass to Buddy thru a couple of defenders for the streaking layup in the 1st half. Good court vision. I'm sometimes critical of Jordan, but he had a good, solid game tonight. Honestly, I never really noticed him getting the ball over the half-court line late in the count, and I'm an ex-referee that would likely notice any panic. He was in control of the count IMHO.

Spangler also had a good game (double-double.... points and rebounds). I'm not a big fan of him taking 3's either, but I would have been happy if one of them had gone in. He was more assertive tonight than usual. I loved his block on the Aggie 7-footer.

Cousins had a sub-par game for him. I liked Bennett's 3 blocks and Walker was more in control except for that ill-advised 3 he took early in the shot clock late in the game. Of course, Buddy was awesome on 10 of 10 from the field including 4 3's.

All in all, it was a very good game for the Sooners, and I have no serious complaints. They played great defense on Forte chasing him all over the court.

Much better offensive outing from woodward. But still a very soft game breaking the press. Couple soft TOs and picking up his dribble right across half court line..

Woodward might be the most important player on this team.. hope he gets it all together

U2B - that WAS an excellent pass to Spangler. Darn near full court too. I was in awe.

Colon I think you mean the one to Buddy. But it was sick. U2B I COMPLETELY agree lol I was sitting there thinking to GET IT ACROSS!!! Half the time he would stop 1 foot short and stand there...there was probably 5-6 times where the shot clock read 26 seconds... Crazy.

:ez-laugh: sometimes I think he just wants to make me nervous about getting the ball across

Good game by Woodard it was good to see Coach K drawing up some plays to get him some shots to get him in the flow

Hopefully that good shooting game will break his slump and get him shooting at a much more respectable level.

I swear, I've never understood this way of thinking. So a player (a college sophomore, no less) has a few less-than-stellar games, so he deserves to be criticized?

Criticize Woodard, or any other player, if their effort is lacking. Otherwise the criticism is not just unwarranted, it's petty and classless. Even when his shot wasn't falling, Jordan was still great at distributing the basketball to the scorers and getting assists.

Last time I checked you could have an opinion on this board.

When Woodard plays good then this team is a top 15 team. When he plays poorly then this team is a very borderline top 25 team.

Criticizing a player's performance is absolutely fair game.

As was Tiny!!!!!!!!

And your point is……?

I have no problem with Tiny or anyone else expressing their opinions. But offering an opinion that Woodward has not been playing up to his usual standards is something entirely different from the incessant and pointless criticism that the kid receives here on a daily basis.
