#24 OU @ #5 texas 6PM CST on ESPN2

I'm guessing UT's Brown is taking this one-point loss pretty hard.

:ez-roll::ez-roll:

It took me a second to figure out why you singled out Brown. That was an unfortunate tip in on Browns part, but happens. I am sure he is sick about it.

jalen “umoja gibson” hill.

Jalen's stroke is looking smooth as of late. If he could give us 6-9 points a night....along with everything else that he does away from the ball, that would strengthen the depth even more.

And we will need Gibson to get back on track from behind the arc on Saturday....Bama can score. Although, he did contribute tonight in other ways 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals to go along with 11 points.

Tough crowd by the usuals .... and we beat a top 5 on the road.

And that's all that will matter come Selection Sunday. No one will have the time or energy to digest which players of which teams did not participate in X games due to COVID-19. It's a crazy year for sure.

The best thing that came out of this game, besides the win of course, is that we now have some film on how to (or not to) play defense when the officials want to blow their whistles every time a little contact is made.

Every team in America would take Austin reaves on their team. Majority would put him in the starting lineup.

And yet he inexplicably goes into wannabe Kobe mode at the worst possible times, causing fans such as myself to nearly pull all our hair out. He played well for 37 minutes and then very nearly cost us the game in the last 3 minutes. I'm not sure if it's hubris or if it's because he has the basketball IQ of a fruit fly.

Reaves did make some stupid decisions at the end, but you cannot overlook his overall game and the way he played last night. He's so confident with his handles, he rebounds, and when he has his mid range and long range going he can be very good and very hard to contain. His clutch FT shooting was also really needed at the end..

I think what the transfers have brought to the team cannot be overstated. Both of them. Both are extremely tough and are dogs. Harkless' rebounding, defense, and overall physicality and dirty work. He also finds shots. Gibson and his outside shot and on the ball defense. Both get steals. I love the way the offense(besides a few situations) has flowed in the half court with both those guys. They know how to play and can get downhill.

So enjoyable to watch right now. Give Lon credit for finding these guys and plugging them in. Hill with the contributions in various ways(the threes wow) and Vic with some blocks and good rebounds early. Man I so wish Vic could make another leap(no pun intended). Kur has improved but is still kind of up and down.

I keep thinking(worrying) that if a couple of our guys are off we will stall. It may happen in the future, but I love the way they seem to pick each other up in some of these games. Keep playing tough defense, and keep it going... Getting close to the way OU baskeball should consistently be played! Effort, toughness, and physicality!

I agree, the transfers have been great and have added everything the team needs. Good post.

Thanks.

Now, if we can just get Vic going. I love it when he comes in and gets rebounds and is so active. Hill also. I like what Hill brings many nights, tough rebounding and good defense. I wish he'd look to score more. He showed a flash last night. I still don't think those two are where they could be, relative to their recruiting profiles. But, i'll concede that COVID has held a number of guys back. I hope guys like the two transfers, Hill, and Vic use their do over year. For the latter two for development's sake.

So... did the page server die last night for a bit? This has happened twice... weird

Thanks.

I think Jalen Hill is exactly where he's supposed to be. He guards all 5 positions, doesn't turn the ball over, rebounds well at multiple positions, takes advantage of opportunities when he gets them (shooting 54% and 45% from three) ... inbounding the ball in crunch time will tell you everything you need to know about what Lon thinks about him. Plays like a senior as a sophomore. He'll improve offensively. We've seen flashes. I expect a Kristian Doolittle type expansion of his offensive game.

He's a solid building block of a very good program and is progressing nicely. Vic has had trouble. The late start got him, but he's also still playing too sped up. He's a little like Diallo for the Thunder. His athleticism can control him at times instead of vice versa, and he gets out of control. Still not sure what he'll become, but he's got potential.

Fantastic win. Take the last six minutes of footage and send it to the bottom of the ocean with Victor Vescovo. But take the win!

God, that closing stretch was awful.

Agree with all this. Like you said if Hill could expand his offense a little, look out. The thing is, I think he can. He just needs to look to. Last night was a start. Maybe pump fake and take it to the rack/midrange jumper a little more maybe like the transfers do. Love when they create shots like that..

This team is playing with a ton of confidence right now. I really enjoy watching them play.

i love that he is shooting it with confidence ... and clearly his shooting stroke looks solid ..

depending on who returns he could get close to averaging double digits+ next season

The wildest thing about this team is that they've been so successful, but I don't know that they've played a complete game yet. In nearly every game (aside from maybe TCU at home), there's been a stretch where it seems like nothing is clicking. Last night, we were below average (particularly offensively) for the first 10 minutes and god awful for the last 6. The time in between was brilliant.

WVU game - An excellent first half followed by a rough first 10 minutes of the 2nd to let them back in it
KSU game - A very lackluster first 8-10 minutes before we blew the doors off

etc etc. I love this team. If they can put it together for a full 40 minutes, the sky's the limit!
