+++++ #7 Oklahoma [11-1, 1-0] vs. Okie Lite [10-3, 0-1] Gameday Thread+++++

Any other year without Trae, manek would be getting serious press. Amazing how good he is and as a dang freshman..

I get the feeling that the Big 12 is going to hate Brady, because he will be around so long. Our opponent will wonder if he will ever graduate. Like the Mayor or maybe Keeton Page. I also get the feeling he may get a little nasty, not dirty, but super tough.

He's just like an attitude away from really reminding me of Larry Bird. He has the same finishing moves Bird used, the same jumper, he's just missing some of the passing and the whole attitude.

OSU sold out to stop Young and held him to only 27 points but they paid big time because they gave up so many easy shots for others. Wonder how many teams if any try that on Trae.

Rough uneven game and the officials contributed, allowing mayhem at times then went into a pattern of calling a foul on every missed shot or drive to the hoop. Would have been a better game if they had let them play a little more.

Great all-around game by Manek.

Achilles heel for this team is still internal defense and rebounding.

Lazenby with a steal, hockey assist, and a drawn charge. and nobody cheered louder than me. if he had given me a little of that before now, i wouldn’t have opened my stupid yapper. i look forward to seeing that contribution increase as we go along, especially at home.

Well stated as always NC.....and you are correct about our "in the paint" defense.

I would've liked for Doo to get some more time tonight....we're going to need him, even if it's only for his D and rebounding.

Great game by the freshmen....

The radio color guy (I can never remember his name -- Kevin Something) went on at length before the game tonight about how smart Coach Kruger has been to go 11 and 12 deep all season long. The reasons he cited were largely those that have been cited here -- to get the guys down on the depth chart some experience in case of injury, to keep them engaged and to allow us to remain fresh and keep up the frenzied pace, game in and game out, that has worked so well for us.

It is entirely possible (in fact, I think it's hard to argue otherwise) that the very reason Ty contributed tonight is that he has gotten a few minutes in every game. We always talk about how a junior college player takes a while -- a year, many insist -- to get up to speed. If Coach Kruger hadn't given Lazenby his 87 minutes over those 12 games, it seems unlikely he'd have been able to play as well as he did tonight in his six minutes. He's been given a chance to get used to the speed of the D1 game, the physicality, the intensity, and we're reaping the benefits.

I knew not to take it seriously when you said this just 3 days ago:

With that, I've said all I'll say about Lazenby. Those who are bothered by him seeing the floor can, of course, keep commenting on it if they wish; me, i'm moving on. I've had my say.

I thought it interesting that OU's color commentary made the very same points some of us had been making here, so I decided to share that info after another poster (not I) brought Lazenby up.

But you're right, I did then add a thought or two of my own. Interesting that you passed right over the substance of my post, but what the heck, enjoy the gotcha.

That was fun!!

Good strategy trying to bully Young when they had trimmed the lead relatively close. Smh. He needs a personal body guard like Blake had with Tay.

Last 10 minutes kinda turned into a playground game. We tried experimenting with Manek and Doo at the 4/5 but they buried us in the paint.

Doo interesting stat line...
10 min, 0 shots, 2 boards, 2 assists, 0 fouls or turnovers
Seems like he's fine just coming in and filling a defense/rebounding role for now

I didn't realize how well everyone but Young shot the 3
Manek 6/8
James 3/4
McGusty 3/6
Freeman 2/2

Recluse was trying to offer an olive branch, and you just resurrected the conversation you said you were done with (in an "I told you so" manner). I would call it subtle, but it really wasn't. Just cut it out. Yes, he made a few good plays. No, we "aren't reaping the benefits" of his play, as this was a blowout, and would have been a blowout without him.

I'd really like to focus on the positives of his performances, but it makes it difficult if you're going to bait us with these "I told you so" posts after every game.

bait "us"? you mean like jake swivel and hoopsaustin trying to bait me with snipey comments about me calling Calipari "greasy"?

In law we call it the doctrine of unclean hands. If you're going to make an argument against something then make sure you're not doing it yourself. I said "you" because you decided to make yourself part of an apparent group of slighted individuals.

Don't attack Sky. Sky's pure class. Always has been. Just let it go. please. Let's just be happy for the bedlam butt whompin'.

Whoa now mister, I put a smiley. You can’t snipe with a smiley.

Lattin may be one of the few players ever that had the opportunity to play with TWO Naismith winners .......and they still couldn’t make him a solid player .

a little harsh for being a fan. I'm sure he works hard and is a good kid. Hes a solid division 1 basketball player. Nothing wrong with that.

His name is Kevin Henry. Great guy. He has personality plus. He was a guard for Baylor back in the day.... I think when Dave Bliss was the coach. I know he was teammates with John Lucas III before Lucas transferred to OSU. Kevin played 3 years for New Mexico before transferring to Baylor. His primary role is serving the entire athletic department as Director of Community Relations .... coordinating all community and voluntary activities. He travels with the football team and is very involved with both the football and basketball teams.

I know him because his son and my grandson play on the same AAU basketball team called the Oklahoma Chaos. They were ranked as the #1 team in the nation in their 8U age group last year. His son is a very good athlete and his daughter is an outstanding volleyball player, too. Kevin and my son are good friends, and since he is usually calling games on Saturdays, his son often travels with my son's family for tournaments but Kevin always makes it for the Sunday games. They all stay at our house when they travel to Houston for tournaments.

Believe it or not (you probably won't, but there's nothing I can do about that), I spent quite some time composing that post so as not to come off as antagonistic (I don't feel antagonistic on the issue; I never have -- I just never understood why some folks were so focused on Lazenby's minutes). The only reason I posted was simply to share Henry's remarks, which I thought might be of interest to some here; if he hadn't directly addressed Coach Kruger's decision to continue to go 11-12 deep, I wouldn't have responded at all.

Thanks, usetobe. I like his work on our broadcasts and he does seem like a good guy. He does a good job -- much better than most former players who do analysis -- of explaining exactly what's gong wrong (or right) and what the Sooners can do about it. And he's usually (so far this season) proven to be correct.

Yup...so glad that Khadeem Lattin plays for OU - and so glad that he will be in the record books as the school's all-time shot-blocker once he graduates. I'm sure we all would have loved for him to take that proverbial next step as a consistent offensive threat (something Jumani is starting to become), but he's still a solid player. I think his experience will be a big help as the season plays on.

And many like me are glad you posted that. I really enjoy reading about outsiders printing / posting positive contributions from OU players...never gets old for me.
