700 D-1 transfers this year. Problem? You decide.

no not a problem ... how many normal college students transfer???

Freedom of movement is a fundamental right in a free country. Exercising your freedoms is not a problem. Good decision or bad, it should be your decision.

Not a problem whatsoever. The system actually works really well. Sit out one year to discourage transferring on a whim, plus the right to transfer without penalty when you've graduated.

About 2 per school. 2/13 of the roster.

I don't really like the grad transfer immediate play rule. That would cut down on a lot of it.

Not just a basketball issue but all sports. OU has had football players, track and field athletes, and others that have transferred and probably will continue in the future. Sign of the times.

I'm all for the graduate transfer rule, but think there should be a clock on when the graduate transfers. If he is to transfer without penalty, it needs to be by such-and-such a date - before it becomes harmful to the school he transfers from.

I love the rule ... college is about school .... rewarding kids for graduating is a great thing

Unless scholarship letters are upgraded to notarized contracts, on a term-compensation basis, you can't really get mad at athletes seeking opportunities. The argument about NCAA sports representing a "job audition" in financial terms is fairly nonsensical for most student athletes, so they shouldn't be expected to stay at a program that isn't going to serve their needs. For those who DO have pro prospects, the only real leverage they have after high school is pursuing a more favorable showcase for their talents. The problem isn't the volume of transfers. The publicity of them that social media makes amplifies the optics a bit.

Nah

Reward them for graduating by given them a degree - not letting them free agent to anywhere they want. Its stupid.

I don't know. Would you rather have Trevor Knight sitting on the bench at OU, or give him a chance to live out his dream at aTm. These young people are human beings and Trevor Knight is just one example. Give them a chance to succeed. Give them a chance to live out their dreams. Its the right thing to do. Its their choice. Its brilliant!

Based on his play vs TCU, I'd rather he lived out his dream at aTm. :dance005:

Well, there is also that ... :D

Nevertheless, I am pulling for Trevor to succeed at aTm. He should not be denied the opportunity.

By all accounts he was a wonderful teammate at OU. By everything that I can see, he seems like a fine young man.

It'd be nice if our fans had a more realistic recollection of that game. A great deal went wrong once Baker got injured. Some of it was Trevor's fault, but much of it wasn't. Bad snaps, dropped passes, you name it. Just about everything went wrong.

TK had some good games at OU; since he's gone now, would it kill us to focus on those?

This reaction seems a bit harsh, as I think that BOB was interjecting a bit of humor (i.e., :dance005:). At least, that is the way I read it.

Fair enough. It's been several years of consistently seeing TK ripped by our fans, and now that he's gone, it'd be nice to see that ease up. He was blamed for every loss we suffered with him under center, but rarely (the Sugar Bowl aside) given any credit.

As Traveler said, it was meant to be humorous. I appreciate his efforts, he just isn't cut out for the current offense because he's not accurate enough. He's much better in the offense we were trying to run and what we ran in 2013/2014.

I disagree with your assessment of the TCU game but that's for another day in another thread (on another message board). I will admit his backup wasn't any better so we really didn't have many options once Baker sustained the concussion. TCU knew that so thats why they hit him late.

I think it does an injustice to the schools and coaches that find these kids and develop them into solid players just to see some other coach and school reap the rewards. It also forces colleges to not redshirt kids who could use a redshirt year b/c it adds a chance that the kid may transfer down the line to a bigger college if he does turn into a good player.

The first time OU loses a player do to the graduate rule to some other school, no one will agree with it then.

As is discussed above, it's happened at OU in football, with our (admittedly much-criticized) backup QB.

As long as OU is good, we won't mind, as we wouldn't likely lose a top-drawer player. If Spangler, say, had another year of eligibility this year, is it likely he would want to transfer? No. What would he gain?

On the other hand, if a player of, say, DJ Bennett's caliber had gotten his degree and wanted to spend his final year of eligibility elsewhere so that he might see more playing time, I don't think anyone would have been upset. Sorry to see him go? Sure, but it wouldn't have been a big hit to the team and I think most fans would have understood DJ wanting to get as much playing time as possible in his final season.

I'm on board with this.
