Some on this board have mailed it in as far as our recruiting goes. I'm going to go on record right now and say to you naysayers that the chance of signing the Terrence brothers are much better than you think. Coach Capel and Coach Cline are working their tails off with these two guys. The thing that everyone needs to keep in mind is that these two guys want to go to a place where they can have a big impact right away. The key that might hold OU back is what will happy with the Tiny situation. If OU comes out okay on this matter don't be surprised if we land both of these young men. Terrence Jones would like to play with Tiny. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

You know what, the house cleaning might make our chances to get these guys better than before.

They can come in right away and play lots as freshmen, then Capel can promise them the remaining scholarships for 2011 will be focused on the best juco's in the nation to fill needs. He will get on the juco's early instead of waiting until the last minute.

All we lose is Cade after next season. If we execute that strategy OU could be a legit top 10 team in the 2011/2012 season and those guys could headline it.

Will the Tiny/Ncaa investigation be over by the time the Terrence Brothers decide? I thought someone posted they would decide this week. I don't think the investigation will be over but Gallon will have to decide to enter the draft by April 25.

This should be another interesting week.

I feel better now than I did last week. Jeff knows what he is doing and I will believe that until I get more than gloom and doomers telling me how bad he is and pissing all over the program. If he was desperate, it would show. Right now he is trying to get the right mix of guys in and signed and does not seem to be panicking.

It doesn't take many good players to turn your fortunes around in a real hurry - providing you can get them to play as a team. This isn't like football where you need a calvary of players to get it turned around. We have three excellent players coming in.

True we have holes like PG and post-players. Let's hope for some good recruiting news over the next few days to week........

Excellent post. I agree with you 100%.

I hope you're right Faithful but there is an awful lot of negative recruiting going on. Hopefully Capel is easing their minds on any issues they may have.

Quick you're absolutely right about the negative recruiting, but TJ seems to be intelligent enough to know the truth. Plus our coaches have done a tremendous job in making sure he knows the facts. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

How many teams can really negative recruit vs Capel or OU?

All he's gotta say is "you want to go up to the hell hole and act like you accomplished something by getting sent packing in the first round or be the next Blake Griffin"?

He took a complete mess and had OU in the tournament in 2 years and the elite 8 in 3. He's got a track record. He's going to do it again. The only question is which recruits will be smart enough to go along for the ride.

I appreciate your positive attitude, but remember, we had 3 burger boys on the team this past year and ended up 13-18. The key is not the most highly rated recruits but finding guys that can mesh.

Personally, if the Terrance boys are considered 1-and-done (I don't know much about them), then I'd rather go with a few guys who will be here 2 or 3 years at least. A couple of 1 year players and we could be back in this situation next year. We need some stability at this point.

LOL. It would be pretty easy to negatively recruit against OU right now. The bottom line is any negative can be spun into a positive. I think Capel can do that.

I just think the timing is terrible for recruiting in terms of big time talent. The bottom line is kids want to be a part of a winning program and with OU's season and losing so much it is a tough sell for a late signee and top talent like Terrance Jones. Terrance Ross will likely end up in prep school from what most are saying.

You see bob that's your problem. You think that recruiting burger boys has led to our downfall and that's not the dilemma at all. Evaluation of which burger boys you recruit and how they might fit on a team was the problem. You don't see the top programs cease in recruiting the burger boys because they have a losing season. OU better keep recruiting the best players they can whether they are burger boys or just a good player all around. Coach Capel has taken the blame for having good pieces this year, but not building a true team. In other words it looked great on paper, but it was a nightmare in reality. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

What makes you think the evaluation of said burger boys has changed from last year to this year? The same people are doing the evaluating.

Thanks grace, I thought it would be pretty obvious how teams could negative recruit against us. I also agree that Capel can get it turned around. His interview tonight eased me.

I agree. You don't stop recruiting talent. Every coach gets a few guys that he may not see as a cancer, until the guy becomes a cancer. Its why there are 100's of transfers every yr from D-1 schools. I wonder how many of the posters crying about " Burger Boys" were crying about Kelvin not recruiting enough NBA caliber players??? I seem to remember that theme alot on the OUInsider board when everyone was wanting KS gone....

With the way the kids are handled today, and the way they are told how great they are from the diaper up, you best expect to get some character issues when you recruit. This yr seemed to be an exception, rather than a rule. We will see with the next few recruiting classes.

A lot of people did complain about this, but I wasn't one of them.

I complained about the 15 minute scoring droughts, I'll readily admit that, but I never complained about his recruiting. I loved some of the players he brought in and the fire they played with (Corey Brewer, Najera, Nolan Johnson, Hollis, Quannis, Everett, Gray, Bookout, etc.).

Fair enough......

If you are satisfied with a sweet sixteen win occasionally, you can get by recruting good but not great players. But, you won't find many NC teams in the last 20 years that didn't have one or two elite players on the roster. The key is, recruiting the right elite as well as role players who are willing to put the team first. That is what I think Jeff will pay a lot more attention to in the future.

You can look down our roster, and there are still quite a few four star type players, not "elite", but guys that have a chance to be "good" if not "really good". The roster next year will have AT LEAST five guys that fit that role [and as of today, one "elite" player]: Gallon, TJ, Cam, Fitz and Pledge [I'd add Cade who was ranked as a four star by several services]. If we can add a serviceable point guard and another post or two, then I think that team can compete for the post-season. If we lose Gallon, that will certainly be tougher to accomplish.
