All the posts and negative comments about Capel and his job!

I will wait for the op's movie to come out.

North Carolina Sooner,

It is not about Xs and Os nor is this is not about 1-2 players leaving OU, it is about 14 of 25 players recruited by Capel leaving before graduation - 56%. This means player retention and graduation are failing. We can point at TMG and Gallon but they are a symptom of the real problem. Only 2 players have gon to the NBA. It is about not being able to hire assistant coaches and ending up with the video guy as an assistant.

The bottom line is that it is about managing the basketball program more than Xs and Os. It has been a total failure and without Blake Griffin (lightning struck for Capel and OU), Capel would have been gone long ago.

You make it sound like no one knows what they are talking about. Outside of coaching, what manager keeps their job if over half their employees bail on them when they need to deliver. The answer is pretty obvious.

What 'manager' or CEO of a Fortune 500 company has 1000 peons from McDonalds, Burger King, and Joe Bob's janitorial service posting their opinions of his job anonymously on a message board as if they knew everything that was going on behind closed doors?

I know some mistakes have been made....I know Capel isn't perfect.....I also know that the average joe has very little knowlege about what it takes to be a DI basketball coach, what it takes to recruit, etc. If you are a CEO you hire college grads and MBAs to work for you and to be your direct subordinates....DI coaches don't usually have the same clientele. It is a little harder to work with the attitudes/issues in MY OPINION. You don't know what Capel does or how hard his job is. I don't know all of it but I have a little bit of an idea (on a smaller scale)

Also...if you are a manager and something happens and employees bail....you give them a chance to hire better employees.....if you have a horrible crew and have to hire them quickly and they aren't the BEST employees but they do the job and work hard to complete it....you don't fire the manager right away....you give him a chance to make it better.....next year is his chance to make it better.....last year was a disaster...but the majority of the talent left....this year he got a new group who WAS IMPROVING but still has a way to go......this year was NOT like last year....surely YOU can notice THAT?

I'm a landman, what does that have to do with Capel being a terrible coach?

My point is you don't have 1000 people posting on a 'oil and gas' site that have nothing to do with your line of work criticizing every move you make and saying over and over you need to be fired....how a high school janitor's opinion have any bearing on your job?

uh sorry to burst your comparison but yes you do. They're called shareholders in the company. And since you continue to push this comparison CEO's of companies are based in general on 1 thing, the ability to generate profit. If they don't generate enough profit they are let go. Yes the comparison for a basketball team would be wins and losses.

lol, owned.

I also don't post on here often, but read all the time. And am a coach as well, not of your obvious caliber only coaching middle school and all. I'm on the fence on this issue, I'm for letting him stay, but if he's cut loose, it could be for the best. What I do find odd is how these things on the boards are never about the pros and cons of hiring/firing but about who does and doesn't have the credentials to post their opinion and the ethical dilemma of anonymity on a message board and how feelings could get hurt if people post their thoughts, ignorant or in your case clearly qualified. Could we just stick to why or why not he should be fired, and not this stuff about how hard the job is and only those who coach can possibly understand why no coach should EVER be fired? I think there is legitimate, honest discussion that can take place and lead to the conclusion that he should be let go, even if the thoughts do come from inferior lay people and are anonymous.

Very Intelligent post:

Now since you asked nicely Reason for keeping him - no need to take another reach on an unproven coach if we wont spend big for a big name, the team did improve from where we were in Maui until the end of the season.

Reason for getting rid of him - His record at OU is nothing to write home about, the last two season are two of the worst in the history of the program, possible repercussions from NCAA infractions, High number of transfers.

If you call 2 losing seasons in a row the right direction no wonder I paid little attention to your long and ignorant post.

This kind of distasteful post makes it very difficult to take some of you seriously. I don't have a problem with anyone believing Capel should be fired. But these constant insults aimed at the coach and anyone who believes he deserves another year is a bit much.

Acting like Blake Griffin was the only reason we won 50 games in two years is one of the most idiotic notions one could concoct. But sure, if you subscribe to the notion that Griffin is the only reason Capel has done anything here, I can see why you'd want him fired.

Is it really? We were good before Griffin, obviously, with a different coach. And Griffin had an entire team of players with him, obviously. My point was, as the OP pointed out, you only need one or two elite players to infuse talent into a roster and make a real change. I don't really follow basketball recruiting that closely, but I just don't see someone like that coming along ... even if Goff, Cezar and Osby are all on the team next year.

I'm still on the fence with Capel in general. And he had my support for 2011-12 up until that Tech game. The Baylor win called off the dogs for a minute ... until Texas reminded us of who we are.

And honestly, I think we have a lot of good parts/players. But as a team, they suck together. And that's not their fault.

You make a good point, but CEO's rarely answer to shareholders...more like board members and board members have more information than the average fan.

Could not agree more. Thank you. If you want to look at this like a business, Capel should be long gone. Team(stock) has been a loser for 2 straight years, revenue(tickets, concessions) is down, I think I read the program is in the red too. Oh, not too mention NCAA issues (office scandal). Yep, you would be fired.

well the comparison was people on message boards criticizing a coach who we have no relation to/nor knowledge of. It's not like we can go and fire Capel can we ? All you can do is ***** and moan if we're unhappy.

And yes generally the board of directors hire and fire officers like a CEO, however I'm sure you also know that shareholders hire and fire the board of directors so.

He had my support until that very game. To see the team quit like they did that night gave me flashbacks of 2009 and Capel swore something like that would never happen with this bunch and it did!!!!

I guess that's my point (although your analogy was good)...we are like shareholders and can only complain OR look on the bright side and support the "company"...

we can also "sell" and stop going to games, stop buying merchandise, and stop donating money to the program. Yeah those things are already happening/happened with our basketball program.

Also shareholders in a company can ultimately fire a CEO by voting out members of the BOD who may not share their sentiments in favor of those who do.

Agreed. Everyone here is entitled to an opinion, without fear of ridicule or embarrassment. Insulting another poster because you don't agree with him is unacceptable in my book. That has never been, nor should it ever be, what this board is about.

What about posters embarrassing themselves by posting pictures of themselves dunking at their apartment complex?????
