13.2 seconds left with BU down by 5 and Motley intentionally fouls Solomon Young at mid-court. The foul was committed after a made BU 3 and no one was even inbounding the ball for ISU yet. They called the foul on Motley, and Young proceeded to miss both FTs (even though he hit a few earlier). BU got the rebound and went down and hit another 3.

Can someone tell me the difference between that foul and the one on Lattin at the end of the BU game...and why ISU didn't get the FTs and the ball like BU did on Tuesday?

Even the commentator said, "I've never seen that before because ISU didn't even have a guy taking the ball out of bounds yet. And Motley was able to commit a foul at half-court?"

Technically, there is no such thing as an "intentional foul" in the NCAA. Only flagrant 1, 2 and common foul.

However, without seeing it, it sounds like that might or should have been a flagrant 1.

I thought the same thing when I saw the play. I have no idea what the difference between that play and Lattin's play.

I've seen Baylor do that 4 or 5 times this year. They obviously practice it. Intentionally foul before time runs off the clock. There's a way to do it IMO so that it doesn't look intentional or flagrant. They've got it figured out.

Earlier in the 2nd half, ISU had a inbounds pass from the side and they were stacked up. As they broke, Motley hooked Young and they called a foul before the pass came in or time ran off. The commentator actually commended them for the play and being able to "intentionally" foul without it being called (a flagrant).

However, the play I posted about above was totally different, as Young was by himself at midcourt, with the rest of the ISU and BU players in the backcourt, and Motley basically just ran through him with his arms out to each side. Motley tried to make the foul look good, but it was not a basketball play, especially since Young wasn't moving and there wasn't even an ISU player on the baseline to inbound the ball yet. Really odd.
