I know. I'm surprised that nobody answered a simple question. What or who is a bbj. Got some smart remarks, but no answer.

What's the point of bashing on this year's team ? You win an award BBJ you can state the obvious, no OU isn't the most talented team out there. Congratulations.

Next year once Goff and Osby can give us some size inside we'll look like a different team.

It's Bob Barry's son, the sports director at the local NBC affiliate and the guy you go to if you want to pick a golfer.

He doesn't really seem to care much about sports, to be honest. There is zero doubt that this time of year he follows less college basketball than 100% of this board. There's no reason to give his opinion the time of day.

BBJ is not only a joke, his statement that this is the worst collection of talent since 1960 is laughably wrong. Does he not remember that Billy Tubbs had to play John Grammar at point? Or a literally one-legged Juice Whitley, a shell of his former self who by that point would have had a hard time winning one-on-one games at the Huff? How quickly we forget.

It's not that this isn't an underwhelming group talent-wise: it is. But, as one of the 2,000 or so in attendance last night, (really: I arrived with 14:00 on the pregame clock and started counting heads, didn't make it to 500, including band and cheerleaders) there was something oddly thrilling about rooting for these obviously short-handed Sooners. In any prior year since Billy's first year I would probably have been fuming about getting taken to OT by a team that's only a transitional D-1 team. Now, I was excited that this bunch somehow found a way to overcome their shortcomings and win a ball game.

Last year's disaster left such a bad taste that maybe this team is the perfect antidote. Maybe we all need to root for the scrappy underdog again, no expectations, and learn to appreciate the little things again like playing hard, playing for your teammates, overcoming adversity, and not quitting when it gets tough. I don't think the fans expect more than that, at least this year.

My problem with BBJ is he holds grudges against coaches and he uses his platform as a member of the media to attempt to discredit those coaches. He also throws out ridiculously over the top predictions and then if anyone disagrees with him they are an idiot. In addition to that a lot of times he really has no idea what he's talking about. I remember a few years back OSU was traveling to Athens to play Georgia in football and BBJ predicted OSU would just go in there and walk all over them. Then when people disagreed with him on the radio he resorted to just screaming "It's freaking Georgia!" over and over again. He apparently does not know that Georgia is one the top 25 college football programs OF ALL TIME and it's not exactly a cake walk to go in there and win. According to him Georgia was about on par with Mississippi State. Of course OSU got blasted and I didn't hear anything else from him about it.

Unfortunately, I think he's also fallen victim to that strange OKC-media mindset that he had to kiss up to OSU just to prove he wasn't an OU homer. He was one of my OU classmates back in the day. And I think by being sort of an OSU homer for apperances that it started affecting how he looked at their programs (and OU's, for that matter).

I've always remembered how that fool came to our school (either Classen 5th year or Taft, I can't remember) in OKC the mid-1980s and the channel 4 guys played our faculty for charity money. That tubby punk was hacking and pushing and generally acting like an idiot in a charity basketball game enough to where my 9-10 year butt came to the conclusion he sucks. It's like he forgot we were pulling for our teachers and wouldn't appreciate his generally dirty play. Even at that age, I remember thinking how stupid he was acting.

Those two lines remind me of something my 300 lb drunken OSU neighbor would blurt out. Not much journalism in those quotes. Just another one of those sports guys who think extremist rants will replace the intelligence that comes with true analysis and commentary.

Great post Mike.

I'm genuinely surprised that anyone on this board reads what I post. Based on how rarely anyone replies to my posts and how it always seems like after I make a post that thread dies instantly, I thought my input on this board was like someone walking into a crowded room and farting, then watching everyone quietly file out to reconvene elsewhere.

:clap

I, for one, genuinely enjoy reading your posts, Dem Coltz. Keeping your farting analogy in mind, perhaps the lack of response to your posts could more accurately be compared to having an attack of flatulence outdoors on a windy day. Metaphorically speaking, your posts may be drifting over the heads of the average reader.
