BBJ rips OU...

I love the optimism (by the posters on this thread) but beating a Div II team on your home floor in OT is nothing to get one over-excited. So, I can understand his criticism, and truth be told, he probably knew he would ruffle some feathers by making such a statement and that's his job (to ruffle feathers and provoke callers and listeners).

I didn't get to see the game, but a number of posters seem to be more excited about the team than I expected. Not sure if that is because they are anxious for basketball to start or really excited about the prospects of this team.

I hope the team can play together and maybe win some games they shouldn't and be competitive in most games. If they can do this and play with some passion, desire, heart and hustle a little bit, this team will go a long way in winning back the fans and the media.

I don't really feel like we really played all that bad last night. Shots just didn't go in till the last 2 minutes of regulation.

Make some of the 3 pointers early in the game and it would have been much different. When you make shots teams look good. When you don't you look horrible.

My problem with BBJ is he holds grudges against coaches and he uses his platform as a member of the media to attempt to discredit those coaches. He also throws out ridiculously over the top predictions and then if anyone disagrees with him they are an idiot. In addition to that a lot of times he really has no idea what he's talking about. I remember a few years back OSU was traveling to Athens to play Georgia in football and BBJ predicted OSU would just go in there and walk all over them. Then when people disagreed with him on the radio he resorted to just screaming "It's freaking Georgia!" over and over again. He apparently does not know that Georgia is one the top 25 college football programs OF ALL TIME and it's not exactly a cake walk to go in there and win. According to him Georgia was about on par with Mississippi State. Of course OSU got blasted and I didn't hear anything else from him about it.

I think it was Dem Coltz who brought up the Hoosier comparison earlier this year.

It rings so true for me

"I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. These 15 individuals have made a choice to work, a choice to sacrifice, to put themselves on the line 30 nights for the next 5 months, to represent you, this university. That kind of commitment and effort deserves and demands your respect. This is your team. "

If you want to be upset at what OU basketball "has become" then be upset with Capel and not the players. They haven't done anything wrong, heck its refreshing to see the attitude and energy they bring to the court after last season.

Thompson looked like a Zebra on roller skates every time he tried to dribble last night.

The score vs. the actual game was a little misleading IMHO.

On offense there were a TON of open shots and they just wouldn't fall, in the first half, we were aggressive and picking up a bunch of fouls (that changes in the second). Nobody looked particularly lost or terrible, shots were just not falling...AT ALL.

On defense, we seemed to play pretty well, they just had one guy that was shooting lights out and another guy that was quick to the rim and everything was falling for him too. Could we improve defensively, absolutely, but we were not "terrible".

Notwithstanding, this team has very little inside presence on either offense or defense, and while serviceable, Fitz getting stuffed is something that we are going to have to expect at least 2-3 times per game. As I said last night, with last years team, this game would never have been this close because they were just more talented; however, if it had been that close, last years team would have lost.

To be clear, there is talent out there, but it is young talent. Newell looks like a heck of a late get, and Cam seems to be letting the action come to him rather than force it...and both guys hustle. We will probably loose some games when we are cold from the outside, they may even be blow-outs, but we may win some we never thought we would if a couple of guys get hot.

Wilkerson only shot 5-15. So everything wasn't falling for him. It seemed like it. But his stat line isn't that good. The white guy couldn't miss. We did a bad job on him a few times.

Wilkerson missed 4 straight free throws down the stretch that cost them the game. He was really bad except for a couple of plays.

BOB, your last paragraph is close to a summary of why fans are excited. This is not the most talented team we've had, not by a long shot. It's just nice to see them play as one unit and show (your words) that passion, desire, heart and hustle we sorely missed last year.

Bad (understatement) shooting performance aside in last night's game, this is a fun team to watch when their shots are falling.

This is good to hear. I can't wait to watch them play and represent my school.

Thompson is an interesting player to watch, he hits the glass a little harder than what I would have anticipated and he is really good hitting guys with nice passes. Not sure how he'll match up with better athletes, but he is fun to watch.

I'm genuinely surprised that anyone on this board reads what I post. Based on how rarely anyone replies to my posts and how it always seems like after I make a post that thread dies instantly, I thought my input on this board was like someone walking into a crowded room and farting, then watching everyone quietly file out to reconvene elsewhere.

I'm like sybarite. What and who is bbj? I could care less. I know this basketball team was behind before it got started last year. This year we have had a chance to get our feet under us. A game like this was good for this team believe it or not. It makes them focus better. We have a pretty focused and hard working group this year. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Not being in Norman, I'm not privileged to know who the locals are, whether they be sportscasters, bars, restaurants, or clubs. It has been a long time, and I don't think The Town Tavern, Sooner Superette, Wilson Center, Cross Center, and Across the Street are still the hubs of the city.
