I believe this is the first time ever they celebrate a football team accomplishment at a womens game instead of a mens game.

I can remember being at the LNC in 86 when they celebrated the 85 National Championship. I can remember being at the LNC in 2001 (for a mens game) when they celebrated the 2000 national championship.

I can remember 4 of the last 5 years when we won a Big 12 championship in football they celebrated at mens games.

Have they always celebrated it at a womens game in addition to a mens game? Or is this a sign the administration figures more people will go watch a womens game instead of a mens game given the difference in the quality of the play on the floor this year?

Unless they have recently celebrated football championships at womens games, I would have to think this is a negative for Jeff Capel.

I remember they celebrated the Rose Bowl Championship (could have been Big 12 title as well, can't recall) during Senior Night for Hollis Price and those guys back in '03.

Not sure what the strategy with this move is. Interesting to say the least.

Makes sense to me seeing as how the Women have gone Back to Back to the Final 4. Sucks for the OU men and hurts me as a fan, but it is the right PR move.

Or on the other hand...They could increase the attendence at a Men's game by honoring the football team.

This is what makes me wonder why they didn't schedule it for the mens game?

I emailed Berry Tramel and he suggested maybe the Fiesta Bowl official couldn't make it to Norman on Saturday for the mens game, so they chose the womens game on Sunday instead.

Maybe that's all it is, but seems strange anyway.
