Big East inviting 6 schools

Water always finds it level and those teams belong together. The big problem the Big XII has is the tie in with the Big East for the Fiesta Bowl.

The Big XII needs to make a move for the Sugar Bowl. Have our champ play the SEC champ every year. Even though it's on their turf at least we would always have a marquee opponent and so would the SEC who has been stuck playing Hawaii & Utah recently.

Edit: Actually it looks like the Big East is now tied in with the ACC & the Orange Bowl starting this year and the Big XII faces an at large in the Fiesta. I still say the Big XII/SEC hook up and play each other in the Sugar each year. Let the Fiesta have 2 at large teams.

Any chance the Big 12 could grab Louisville and Cincy or Louisville and South Florida because of this?

Yes...Louisville is working the phone lines desperately trying to get out.

Fiesta is looking at an OSU or OU vs. Nebraska/Michigan State/Stanford/Oregon match up. Should be one of the more high profile games this bowl season.

Even if we make that happen who then? Do we completely steal their thunder and invite Boise (and then they can put up or shut up about competition) or an indy like BYU? Someone else?

I think we have decided against it. Those programs do not warrant a full share and would dilute value.

The 10 team model is the best and West Virginia is accretive to Missouri which more than makes up for any shortfall caused from the A&M to TCU switch.

All systems are go.

This musical conference game some schools are playing makes my head hurt. I want it to be over!

I say it's time (past time actually) to get in, stay in, or get out and make room for schools with enough integrity to show a little loyalty for a change. Now, wouldn't that be a novel idea?

I wouldn't mind Louisville being in the conference. Sort of bridges the gap between everyone else and WVU.

BCS tie-ins are as follows:

Rose - B1G vs. Pac-12
Sugar - SEC vs. At-Large
Orange - ACC vs. At-Large
Fiesta - Big 12 vs. At-Large

The Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta rotate first dibs on at-large, and this year the Fiesta has first dibs so we should get a decent matchup if we win the Big 12 but don't make the MNC. I do not like the fact that the Fiesta is a BCS bowl over the Cotton, as the Big 12 is the only confirmed conference making the Fiesta every year so that bowl should really be located in Big 12 country.

Loyalty is a nice idea, but it needs to go be mutual.

It also has to be earned.

When a school's been threatening to leave for, what, seven or eight years? -- it seems like it -- how much loyalty do they deserve?

Since 1995 so that's what, about 17 years????

Missouri is a non factor. They are dilutive. Whether they were a non factor in the SEC or Big XII is of no consequence to anybody. Nobody cares about them.

Nebraska is the big fish that got away and the Big 10 is loving it. That conference is so weak Nebraska is their spotlight team every other week.

West Virginia is a great add. They aren't Nebraska but they are a national brand and the Big XII will benefit from them because unlike A&M or Missouri West Virginia will come in and compete with a real chance to win like Nebraska had.

Try two. And Deaton was actively involved in trying to keep the Big 12 together this summer/early fall. The threats were media and fan-generated for the most part. The decision makers never took that approach.

And that's after over a century in the same conference (more or less).

If a hundred years didn't earn loyalty, nothing ever would have.

West Virginia is a national brand.

No they aren't. Not even remotely close. They were a national story in 2007 (the same year when Missouri set Gameday viewer records and had the highest-rated regular season game of the season). They were never a national brand.
