Big East inviting 6 schools

No they aren't. Not even remotely close. They were a national story in 2007 (the same year when Missouri set Gameday viewer records and had the highest-rated regular season game of the season). They were never a national brand.

Maybe not. But West Virginia has made their mark in the past few years, in basketball and football. Slice and dice this decision anyway you choose. WVU is an outstanding addition to the Big 12 Conference.

Nebraska is the big fish that got away and the Big 10 is loving it. That conference is so weak Nebraska is their spotlight team every other week.

I'll be interested to see how this works out in the next few years. I'm still not sold on Pelini and I want to see how the Huskers recruiting continues. I still think in the long run that NU will be in about the same position in the Big 10 as they were in Big 12, which is around 3rd or 4th, and Big 10 is an overall weaker conference IMO.

I don't have anything against Mizz. I understand their beef to a certain extent. I still think they should stay and then add one more to get back to 12.

Wouldn't it be funny if this was all a ploy by Mizzou and the other schools that want to expand to force the Big XII to go back to 12 teams. They let the world think Mizzou is going to the SEC, so the Big XII invites a replacement (WVU). Now they all announce that Missouri is staying and the league is at 11, forcing them to bring in a 12th (Louisville). All the Big XII schools rejoice in pulling one over on Deloss.

As funny as that would be, it is clearly not the case. Mizzou is going to leave and the league is going to stay at 10, because that is what Texas wants.

What's with all this "Dodds/Texas are calling all the shots" nonsense? The correct decisions are being made. Taking WVU over Louisville was the correct decision. Staying at 10 teams is the correct decision.

You can bet staying at 10 teams is another reason Missouri is running away. That fake Big XII north title no longer exists. That's the only reason anybody could possibly prefer 12 to 10. It created an extra title the weak sisters had a shot at.

OU & OSU are playing on championship day. Texas will play on Championship day. Those games are much more valuable than watching OU/Texas stomp an overmatched north team.

All the reports I have read say that Dodds/Texas want to stay at 10 teams and Boren/OU (and most of the rest of the league for that matter) want to go back to 12 teams.

Long term it would provide stability to the league and ESPN/ABC is going to want a title game, when every other league has one. I would be in favor of a more equitable split with a title game. I think Louisville and South Florida could be strong additions for a multitude of reasons.

Div A
WVU
Louisville
S. Florida
ISU
Texas
TCU

Div B
OU
OSU
KU
KSU
TT
Baylor

Set up a yearly cross division rival, like the SEC has.

You can't tell me that an OU/Texas or OU/TCU Big XII title game wouldn't be a big money game.

hogwash.

this blame texas propaganda is approaching the silliness of anything right wing blaming the press corps for all their bad ideas and personal failings

Ada, I don't disagree with that. I think WVU was probably the best addition available for the Big 12 at this point.

I've actually seen speculation that Mizzou's delay in announcing for the SEC might be related to that. Not that we plan on staying, but that it's an attempt to force the Big 12 back to 12 teams for the majority of the conference that would prefer that (and as an F U to UT). It was admittedly baseless speculation (of the "wouldn't it be cool if..." variety), but the thought's been thrown around.

That is a great Idea. OU, OSU, Tech and Baylor can all set up legitimate cross division rivalries and Texas can have an annual rivalry with ISU played in Houston. That is about how something like that would work out. We need to play the same schedule as Texas or have it rotate on the same basis.

Missouri is a non factor. They are dilutive. Whether they were a non factor in the SEC or Big XII is of no consequence to anybody. Nobody cares about them.

Nebraska is the big fish that got away and the Big 10 is loving it. That conference is so weak Nebraska is their spotlight team every other week.

West Virginia is a great add. They aren't Nebraska but they are a national brand and the Big XII will benefit from them because unlike A&M or Missouri West Virginia will come in and compete with a real chance to win like Nebraska had.

Your kidding yourself that the Big Ten is weak. Yes Ohio State is in trouble right now but that is easily a top 10 all time program. Honestly, it is difficult to make a top 10 all time list that does not include three or four programs from the Big Ten. Michigan, Ohio State, Nebreksa and Penn State are all major players in collge football. In fact, they are about as major as you get. Sure OU, Texas, USC, Alabama and arguably others are as major or even more significant but those four schools make up a lot of the history of college football.

Additionally, the Big Ten is in heavily populated states. It is a major conference by any stretch of the imaginiation.

You could set up the Big 12 so that UT and OU are in separate divisions and the OU/UT game could be the annual rivalry. The SEC rivalry games are divided so everyone's playing more or less comparable competition. It helps create a bit more parity and IMO is one of the things that helps keep the middle tier strong.
