Probably as strong as ever in football and I expect the same coming in basketball.

Watch & see the 10 team model over a region that large is going to yield the best results financially & competitively.

And lol @ Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri & A&M lost in the shuffle with no chance to win anything. Their brand is now dead, their identity will be losing to Vandy & chanting S-E-C !!!!!

I think the top 8 team's will be as strong as any other league's top 8. Should do really well during the nonconference tournaments.

Curious to see how the top stacks up nationally. KU, Baylor, ut maybe. How the top squads do seems to affect national perception most. Tourney time becomes final judgement.

The 10 team model has nothing to do with how tough the conference is. We'd be no worse off, competitively, with 2 of Louisville/Cincy/BYU/FSU/Clemson, or whomever else you think we might add.

But yes, the league is tough. Like it has been for some time. I could make a very solid argument that over the last 12-15 years, we're the 2nd best football conference, and at worst, 3rd best basketball conference. The SEC is good at football, but outside of what UF did there for a couple of years, aren't much in hoops. And the Big East/ACC aren't much at football. Big 12 = most balanced conference in the country.

Psst......google "Defending National Champion Kentucky Wildcats". I bet you'll get a few results. ;)

Yeah, I forgot they are good again. Dang. Very top heavy though. UF, and now UK, but not much after that. Thanks for not just calling me an idiot for forgetting them. :facepalm :ez-laugh:

Glad you're enjoying TCU and WVU.

And yes, MU has struggled in its first three SEC football games, but this season isn't representative of what MU is capable of, and it isn't going to kill MU's football brand.

I'll gladly accept SEC basketball champs as our identity going forward.

And no, the Big 12 isn't "as strong as ever" in basketball. It's not even as good as it was last year.

actually it is the perfect representation of what MU is capable of

1969...the last year that Missouri won at least a share of a conference championship in football (Mizzou did have the tiebreaker in '69). 1960 was the last time they won a conference championship outright. Only two finishes in the AP top 5 all-time. Now THAT is what you call a "BRAND"...well, of mediocrity.

Not to mention their ZERO Final Fours in men's hoops.

I'll be honest and say that I'd rather have Missouri in the conference than TCU, but I really like what WVU is bringing to the table.

the most ironic thing about Missouri leaving is that for 20+ years they have been telling the world they are a better academic institution than the Big 8/Big XII and belonged in the Big Ten. Well the Big Ten didn't want them. They saw no value in the "Missouri Brand" (and rightfully so, they are free loaders taking from the big boys).

So Missouri, the self proclaimed Harvard of Mid-America runs off and joins the SEC which is one of the the worst academic conference in the FBS and certainly the worst in the BCS. Missouri is truly laughable.

You won't be winning any basketball championships either...

Basketball wise West Virginia is an upgrade from Missouri. I'm talking body of work here not just last year.

TCU and A&M are about the same based on how A&M's program was trending.

The top 8 teams in the Big12 compare very favorably to the SEC. If there was a Big12/ SEC challenge, B12 would win it- might even sweep it this year.

There is a whole division of teams in the SEC that are just horrible in basketball.

SEC West:

Alabama
Arkansas
A&M
Auburn
LSU
Mississippi
Mississippi State

I don't know if we'll ever see the conference as top heavy as it was in 01-04 or around there. But there are a lot of good teams. We could be much better as a team this year and still finish 7th or 8th in the conference. I'm not sure if the conference really has a top caliber team nationally right now.
