Bill Self to the Thunder?

Where did you hear that? Why break a great thing up? The players love Brooks.

No doubt. I hope the Thunder Fans don't go all Sooner Crazy and start calling for the coach's head, just after going to the Western Finals and NBA Finals 2 yrs in a row..........

Of course as a Laker Fan I have no dog in the fight, but it would be foolish, IMO to run off Brooks when it is obvious he has a young group who love playing for him.

Has nothing to do with firing Brooks. I haven't heard the Self news, but I've read that currently, Presti and Brooks are miles apart on the new contract extension for Brooks. So much so, that ESPN says "it's possible they go their separate ways."

I think they'll get a deal done, but if not, money is why, not going a different direction.

I think brooks is ok and I wouldn't fire him, but the Thunder don't look very well coached to me, in some respects.

No movement or plays on offense, and provided the other team doesn't have a superstar, his defense looks ok. But, if the other team has a great player, he sages, doubles and triples the player and leaves the other opposing players completely unguarded -- by design. Thus, against the heat, in order to keep wade/james from scoring 50 combined, he completely unguarded everyone else on their roster and kept them to 40. The net effect was to make every hack and journeyman on their team look like jordan. Hell, if you the average 9th grader just sit out there and shot the ball uncontested, they are going to hit more than they miss.

I love Sherri Coale, but can' t even watch when we play Baylor. It is the same thing. Griner is all world, but Sherri makes every player on their team look like an all star -- simply by not guarding them. Of course, Griner still gets her 20/15 anyway, but at least she didn't get 40/15. Never mind we get beat to death.

Good basketball coaches guard every shooter and don't have defenders come off of shooters to help out. Then, they devise different ways to help a little on the better players when they can. If a great player gets his point, so be it, at least the other and lesser players don't kill you.

The kids like brooks and in the pro game, there is a lot to be said for this. It is important. The team plays hard, albeit selfishly, but this is a sign of good coaching. However, you couldn't get anyone who would no less regarding Xs and Os than Brooks. At least, this appears to be true just looking at the team.

Self is a great college coach, maybe the best. But, there is almost no correlation between being a good college coach and being a good pro. Might be a good one or might not.

I realize many won't agree with these opinions.

I don't think Brooks is a particularly great coach, but I certainly don't have issues with him instructing his team to help on Lebron, even if that meant giving guys like Battier, Chalmers, and Miller open looks. I'd rather lose b/c those guys went off, then b/c Lebron beat his man and dunked the ball all night.

I agree 100%. I hate watching coaches overplay guys while letting scrubs go off. Make the star beat you.

Brooks is a young coach...He'll get better...and with that being said...he did help lead this team to a better year every year. We were in the finals!!! Are players will get better, He will get better, and this team is made for championships. Miami bought their team...OKC built their team. When we win our Championship...it will make it even better.

Not giving him enough money to be retained=firing

although OKC would be dumb to let Brooks go, but if it did happen i would do anything to see if Phil Jackson was talking about the Thunder as the one team he would might come back to coach....pie in the sky scenario but i hope OKC does the right thing and bring Brooks back.

Not if he is asking for a ridiculous amount.
I doubt he's asking for much more than market value for a coach with a trip to WCF and Finals in past 2 years, with a coach of year award, with such a young team. If he is asking more, kudos to his agent.

Besides, ridiculous is relative.

I expect a deal announced within days.

I mean c'mon, is Self going to run the high low with Ibaka and Perkins?

OMG please don't Okie-ize the Thunder situation.

Brooks isn't going anywhere and we don't want fricking Bill Self.

Brooks doesnt have a player who can run offense, which makes him look bad. He has Stefon Marbury Jr. playing point guard. A volume shooter, a jack machine. He isnt a point guard. Hard to win when your point guard goes 3-20 from the field or 10-26, etc.

I sure do disagree with a lot of people on this thread. I think Westbrook is a great player. I think Brooks is a great coach. OKC was terrible just a few years ago. The last game was a blow out but the others were close and OKC had its chances. I think if OKC stays together they will win a title.

Haha, he's twice the player Marbury ever was, and an elite player in the NBA at age 23. The biggest difference is Russ is a winner.

This, and Russ has improved every year. I expect him to shoot roughly 8,000,000 three-pointers in the off-season and come back completely unguardable.

Hmmm, 8,000,000 three pointers in 90 days would be 88,888.88888888889 three pointers per day..... :D

Why are you coming after me on this? lol

All I did was pass along a piece of information that I read on a paid site (ESPN), that suggested OKC and Brooks are a significant ways apart in salary negotiations. I even said, in my first post, that I thought they'd get a deal done.

Sheesh.

I think its great to have 1 defensive minded person...but to have 2 guys who are strictly out there for defense with 0 offensive abilities is not a good thing in my opinion. It got us to the championship...but Sefolosha and Perkins killed us. Those 2 combined for 9.4ppg in the finals. If one of our big 3 has a bad night...those guys don't do anything to make up for it.
