Where did you hear that? Why break a great thing up? The players love Brooks.
I think brooks is ok and I wouldn't fire him, but the Thunder don't look very well coached to me, in some respects.
No movement or plays on offense, and provided the other team doesn't have a superstar, his defense looks ok. But, if the other team has a great player, he sages, doubles and triples the player and leaves the other opposing players completely unguarded -- by design. Thus, against the heat, in order to keep wade/james from scoring 50 combined, he completely unguarded everyone else on their roster and kept them to 40. The net effect was to make every hack and journeyman on their team look like jordan. Hell, if you the average 9th grader just sit out there and shot the ball uncontested, they are going to hit more than they miss.
I love Sherri Coale, but can' t even watch when we play Baylor. It is the same thing. Griner is all world, but Sherri makes every player on their team look like an all star -- simply by not guarding them. Of course, Griner still gets her 20/15 anyway, but at least she didn't get 40/15. Never mind we get beat to death.
Good basketball coaches guard every shooter and don't have defenders come off of shooters to help out. Then, they devise different ways to help a little on the better players when they can. If a great player gets his point, so be it, at least the other and lesser players don't kill you.
The kids like brooks and in the pro game, there is a lot to be said for this. It is important. The team plays hard, albeit selfishly, but this is a sign of good coaching. However, you couldn't get anyone who would no less regarding Xs and Os than Brooks. At least, this appears to be true just looking at the team.
Self is a great college coach, maybe the best. But, there is almost no correlation between being a good college coach and being a good pro. Might be a good one or might not.
I realize many won't agree with these opinions.
I don't think Brooks is a particularly great coach, but I certainly don't have issues with him instructing his team to help on Lebron, even if that meant giving guys like Battier, Chalmers, and Miller open looks. I'd rather lose b/c those guys went off, then b/c Lebron beat his man and dunked the ball all night.
Not giving him enough money to be retained=firingHas nothing to do with firing Brooks. I haven't heard the Self news, but I've read that currently, Presti and Brooks are miles apart on the new contract extension for Brooks. So much so, that ESPN says "it's possible they go their separate ways."
I think they'll get a deal done, but if not, money is why, not going a different direction.

I doubt he's asking for much more than market value for a coach with a trip to WCF and Finals in past 2 years, with a coach of year award, with such a young team. If he is asking more, kudos to his agent. Not if he is asking for a ridiculous amount.

Haha, he's twice the player Marbury ever was, and an elite player in the NBA at age 23. The biggest difference is Russ is a winner.Brooks doesnt have a player who can run offense, which makes him look bad. He has Stefon Marbury Jr. playing point guard. A volume shooter, a jack machine. He isnt a point guard. Hard to win when your point guard goes 3-20 from the field or 10-26, etc.

This, and Russ has improved every year. I expect him to shoot roughly 8,000,000 three-pointers in the off-season and come back completely unguardable.

Besides, ridiculous is relative.
I expect a deal announced within days.
I mean c'mon, is Self going to run the high low with Ibaka and Perkins?
