Bracketology 2018

Yes, I posted it

They haven’t met since the full debacle

This is false. The committee met yesterday and made their initial top 2 seed lines. They got to seeds 3 before taking a break.

Today, we were told that they have seeded the top 5 lines, so through the 5 seeds. They have a list of under consideration for teams, and they said 2/3rd of them lost by Thursday. We were told that list was 33 teams are under consideration via 2 days ago. 28 teams were in on the initial ballot

I was just watching a CBS sports interview with Bruce Rasmussen, the chairman of the selection committee. He was asked specifically, in 2 separate questions, about Oklahoma St. and Oklahoma. On the Sooners, he compared their season to a golf tournament and said that it was like OU shot 65 on the 1st 2 days and 75 on the last 2 days. He followed that up with something to the effect of, "overall that golfer had a pretty good tournament." He also said that something similar happens in the NBA where a team plays well in the 1st half, not well in the 2nd half, and still makes the playoffs. It certainly sounded positive toward OU's chances of making the tournament.

On OSU, he sounded more pessimistic, sort of cutting off Wally Sczerbiak when he said that OSU could control who they played in the non-conference schedule. OSU's RPI is 85. No team with an RPI in the 80's has ever made the tournament. He also contrasted OSU from Middle Tennessee by saying that OSU benefits over Middle Tennessee by getting more opportunities than Middle Tennessee by playing in the Big 12. Based on those comments, I would guess that Middle Tennessee has a better chance to be in the tournament than OSU.

They showed video of the committee currently meeting while the chairman was being interviewed by CBS sports. They're together all weekend and have been together for at least a day or 2. The committee chairman said they've already got 32 teams in the tournament.

I can't ever remember a scenario like this as far as the tournament goes.

If you blindly look at the resume, this team deserves to be in. But there is also zero doubt that this team is not the same as the one that played the first half of the year, and this version of the team is flat out atrocious (i.e. last place in the conference type bad.)

The "eye-test" is part of the equation. Here is how the NCAA defines that on their website: An extensive season-long evaluation of teams through watching games, conference monitoring calls and regional advisory committee rankings;

It also says "player and coach availability" is a factor.

There are pretty reasonable interpretations of either of those clauses that leave OU out of the field. I don't think the NCAA should do this, but ultimately I think this will be the deciding factor: Trae Young will bring a huge ratings boost to the otherwise basically irrelevant Tuesday night games in Dayton. He'll also help with ratings if OU were to somehow make a run.

1. The committee is supposed to look at resumes blindly. A win in December counts the same as 1 in February. I think its fair to say, from the committee's perspective, that the team who showed up in December could return in the tournament. I don't think it's likely, but other teams have struggled coming in to the tournament and then played very well once they got there.

2. The "player and coach availability " clause is about injuries and suspensions and could apply to Arizona because of Miller & Ayton, and Notre Dame due to Bonzie Colson. They didn't put LSU in the tournament for Ben Simmons, and didn't put Washington in the tournament for Markelle Fultz. If OU makes it, it's not because Trae Young is must-see TV.

You look at the resumes blindly, but the language makes it clear that the eye test is a factor. Washington wasn't eligible for the tournament and LSU wasn't close. They weren't even in the first four out.

Hey Bounce, while you talk about OSU having better victories remember they also got swept by Baylor,KState and TCU. AND OU had some real nice victories Outside of conference and OSU had 7 dogs on their non conference.

Also doesn’t Joe C sit on the committee? You think that doesn’t have influence you are kidding yourself. Even though he has to leave the room while OU is discussed you think all those in the room want to toss his team. NOPE!

Also CBS wants eyeballs on the TV sets and that’s what TY brings.

OU has a very strong resume the way they do it now (unlike when they looked real strong at recent success). If they look at it the old way there is little incentive for teams to go out and play tough non conference games.

OU should be just fine probably a 10 seed. And who knows, if the refs call the game like its supposed to be called, unlike how the Big-12 refs had gotten used to letting teams bump and hand check TY, maybe we can win one or two and Possibly make the second weekend.

I think OU gets in. OSU probably not But again you show your ignorance with the above statement. Baylor, KSU and TCU are all tourney teams. That OSU team that has all the bad losses beat OU twice. They also didn't lose to ISU.

Better hope the committee doesn't have as bad an opinion of OSU that you do. If they do OUs losses will look that much worse.

Nevada losing REALLY hurts. We really need to hope no other bids get stolen over the next two days.

The only two bids remaining that can get stolen are Memphis winning the American (not going to happen) and St. Joes beating Rhode Island (possibility). Everyone else playing today is either already in the tournament or they are a non-tournament team playing for their conference championship (low mid-majors).

THanks Aggie lol. Those 3 teams your aggies got swept by are towards the bottom of the conference and Baylor will not get in from what I’m seeing. And you can Choose to just look at OSU’s positives and ignore all their negatives but to your loss. Thanks for calling me ignorant- I was told by some friends that this board gets personal and for sure it does - would be nice if posters would just comment on the topic. Obviously you took my facts about your team personal.

Tell you newby coach to not schedule 7 dogs in non conference

Baylor's not a tournament team. Reality is, Ok State beat 3 different teams to total 5 Q1 wins. They didn't do themselves any favors in the non conference and that's why they will be hosting NIT games

Not sure why the Athletic still has us holding at an 8. For an accurate site, that is completely apart from what all others are predicting.

Byron, I would have no problem with OSU getting in. And if they get in at our expense, your fans should enjoy the laughter. All we had to do was win 3 of our last 11 games to not be in this "bubble" conversation, and we couldn't do it...so no complaints will be coming from my end if we don't get in.

As for OSU, I think your RPI is something like an 86. If that's true, and they still get in, I would wonder if that results in the death of the RPI.

I just looked at Lunardi's latest Bracketology showing us as one of the last TWO in - playing St. Mary's as a #12 seed. Wow, talk about being squarely on the bubble.

I appreciate that. I have never thrown anything in the face of the good posters her Through the years I have enjoyed reading the thoughts of poster like Ada, Proud Sooner Mom, BigABD and CoolM

OSU is playing on house money. I'm tickled to death with the way things turned out Good luck tomorrow during the bracket reveal.
