Bracketology in November

I think Texas goes off this year. 5 seniors and 4 juniors with some talented freshmen joining the mix. I think they will be right there at the top of the big 12 at the end with the other 3.

Great point. I also think Iowa State drops back a bit because of the coaching change. It's hard for guys who have been around that long to immediately adapt to a new system. They'll struggle some early.

Agreed ... but Texas also had a LOT of room to improve. ISU played pretty close to their ceiling last year.

Shaka has proven he can take a decent team to a final 4. He has twice as much talent on this roster as he did at VCU. If Shaka is the real deal, which I think he is, then Texas could become very dangerous. Not just in the big 12 but come tournament time, you might see him put runs together just like he did at VCU.

Rick Barnes, with all the talent he brought in to Texas, doesn't have really anything to show for it. The talent is there at Texas right now and Shaka doesn't have to rebuild...he can just win.

But you have to remember, Shaka took VCU that far (with, as you said, less talent), because of his system (the Havoc).

Texas does not have close to the personnel to run that system yet, at least not effectively, and not for 40 minutes.

Shaka will develop that kind of roster soon, but right now, Texas can't do it.

Could you imagine Cameron Ridley, Prince Ibeh and Conner Lammert trying to run the Havoc? :ez-laugh:

Sorry, just a funny image in my head.

True...but you also run a system towards the talent you can bring in to VCU. He wouldn't be able to get the guys like Ibeh and Ridley to VCU so the Havoc system might not be something he continues to run. We will see what he does. Thank god bball season is finally here.
