Bryce Thompson Transferring

Bryce is better than the osu guys except possibly Anderson (I would take BT over him). However most of their team are guys that play similar to him. Boynton has done a great job getting the guys to play hard. I'm not convinced though he is a great offensive coach. Cunningham set everything up for them last year by being able to cover a 4 or 5 and still run the point. It allowed them to play small ball.
Boynton seems to be a great guy but so does Moser. Sooners have more of a need for BT's talent. He should work work great with Groves in the post high or low.

Now the real question is whether Bryce appreciates this dynamic! Hope so.

BT decision will likely be next week. OU is making a great impression. Relationship is still really new.

I like this. Keep dragging it out, and he'll be a Sooner. If we get Mawein, that's another feather in the cap.

Were OU to get Mawein and Thompson, who would be considered the 12th and 13th scholarship guys on this team who never play and are just practice players?

1-12 would be legit.

Rick is questionable. Just an unknown.

Last three players on the bench would be:

Mason
Cortes
Issanza

In any order.

But our second team would be stout:

First Team
Goldwire
BT
Harkless
Mawein
T Groves

Second Team
Gibson
Noland
Hill
J Groves
Chagrois

Usually only play 9, 8 when conference rolls around. If OU gets BT I’d say mawein, Cortes, Mason, & Issanza don’t get much time. Odd man out at conference time would either be Noland or J Groves

IF we cn get 8/9 very solid contributors I'll be a happy camper. Last yr after the top 5 it really dropped off...definitely offensively. I always held my breathe when subs went in.

I think that was only true after Williams & Manek went through Covid & lung issues. 1-8 was solid last year. Gibson good for 20-25 mins, Kur & Hill good for 12-15 mins.

I’m no Debbie downer but let’s take an unbiased look at something about Bryce Thompson that isn’t too good - because his all around game is nice and he is a great athlete and all but let’s face the facts he had a horrible initial D1 season as a shooter from all levels. ...
There no sugar coating these awful shooting stats ..

35% from the field
42% on 2’s
22% from 3 point line
64% from the FT

Those numbers are pathetic. I don’t know who to compare them too because anyone else shooting those percentages is typically on the bench. If he raises ALL of these by 10 points he’ll be an average shooter and the odds of that happening are minimal at best ....
But for comparisons sake let’s compare a very recent guy about the same size we all wished could shoot better ...
Alondes Williams shot
45% from the field
54% from 2
25% from 3
72% from the line

I’m not saying I don’t want Bryce, I’m not saying he won’t improve those percentages because I want him in C&C and I believe he will, but I am saying if you expect him to come in and carry the team on offense like some 5*’s do you may be barking up the wrong tree ...

yes and no....before manek and williams had covid we were pretty solid.

Hill was not an offensive threat at all...sad because I thought he could add more but for some reason he was always hesitant. He did have some nice games but far and inbetween.

Kur...we all the story with him...

Gibson def had some games as well...

Just looking for consistency

Comparing a 21/22 year old with three+ years of college basketball coaching to an 18 year old freshman who spent more than 2/3 of the season with injuries that impacted practice time and game time is not an apples to apples comparison.

Ou given another zoom. Full staff. Head coach on staff. Nba guy. Developers on staff.

Is this good or bad you think? I mean of course any communication is good but wondering if he’s leaning another direction but giving OU one last shot, or what. Getem Porter!

I’m comparing D1 guards, both of very similar size, one we had the last two years and one we have high hopes of landing. I did not say they were the exact same age and blood type.
Forget the Willians comparison and tell me Thompson’s shooting percentages are not below average especially for a 5* and very worrisome ....

As maintained, he was playing injured an unduly amount of time. Thing is if the coaching staff wants him, that should say a lot (Kruger also wanted him......and Self wanted him, too). That's a lot of want.
