JR Giddens(KU)

Xavier Henry(KU)

BT(KU)

if BT picks osu i believe that it will be the first time an Oklahoma high school mcdaa will ever be on the osu roster ..

I believe this is correct. Oklahoma has had 10 MCDAA, if memory serves me right. Every previous MCDAA has gone to OU or KU, except for Mayberry.
  1. Wayman
  2. Lee Mayberry
  3. Ryan Humphrey
  4. Xavier Henry
  5. Blake
  6. Trae Young
  7. Mike Maddox
  8. Jeff Webster
  9. JR Giddens
  10. BT

I remember when they signed Cunningham they said he was their 8th, and I believe we have had 9, 5 of which came from OK. If I didn't miss anyone- Trae, Tiny Gallon, WW, TMG, Blake, Drew Lavender, Humphrey, Jeff Webster, and Wayman.

EDIT: Oops, it looks like Boulder beat me to the list!

What makes you think he will shoot it well? His stats at KU don’t prove that to be true. Some might blame that on the freshman college jitters, but he averaged 39% from the field and 30% from three on his AAU team.

Because he is a good shooter?

I'm not going to use a partial freshman season to say he won't shoot it well. He may not, but I'm not going to make that conclusion based on a year where he wasn't happy with how he was used (and probably wasn't used correctly), and had two injuries that we required surgery. I'm guessing if he ends up somewhere that he fits better, he'll play/shoot better.

IF? Is there still a chance that he'll pick OU? Thought Coach and others confirmed it's OSU and he's just announcing his decision today.

Considering the video is already made and everyone around him has been told it's Ok State, he would have to change his mind this morning and scratch the video, etc.

So no, there's no chance. OU already knows this, and is why they are pursuing other guards with the last scholarship.

i wish i could find his high school shooting numbers but i have not been able to find that yet ..

but at KU and his last year in AAU .. shooting numbers were not good.

I might agree if not for his shooting stats on his AAU team. That seems to suggest, at least to me, he may not be a good shooter when the opposition is on a higher level than he faced at Booker T. I also thought it was strange his teammate, Trey Phipps, was the MVP in the state championship game their senior season. I’m guessing the opponent’s defense was geared to shut BT down, and that opened the door for Phipps. But, that’s kinda my point. Does he shoot well enough to score when a defender closer to his level is determined to shut him down?

Don’t get me wrong, I would be very happy if Bryce changed his mind and picks OU today. There is no question he was an outstanding player in high school, and that he has a chance to be good on some level in college. I’m just not convinced he’s an elite shooter who can score when a defense keys on him.

I could be wrong, of course. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. 😆

Yeah but who says whether shots actually goes in matters in determining if someone is a good shooter lol?

Reminds me of something Kelvin said about Quannas. I’m paraphrasing because I don’t remember the exact words, but something along the lines of, for a guy who isn’t supposed to be a good shooter, he sure makes a lot of shots.

It’s funny how once a player gets a reputation one way or another, some fans and coaches and analysts stick with it no matter how much evidence suggests it isn’t accurate. I think unless and until BT actually makes a good percentage, there is no real reason to assume he is a good perimeter shooter.

Type of offense, talent around him on this team, usage, that all can affect shooting percentages.

Go back and read any scouting report on his game, and most mentioned shooting as a strength. Never said he was an elite shooter, but he'll shoot the 3 ball between 34-38%, which given the rest of his offensive game will be more than good enough.

It's official. Hope he has fun at a program whose record is one tournament every four years. Good luck on getting usage among all those perimeter players.

Time to move on from his name and concentrate on our program. We'll be fine without him for 1-2 years. As Gene Hackman said in Hoosiers, "Our team is on the floor". Let's go get it and kick their arse. More excitement surrounds our program than in years, even without him, let's get more behind it.

Amen to all of that!!!

I wish him the best but it's pretty funny his video yesterday was titled "No U turns"....... I guess Lawrence was a fork in the road!! Haha!!

If only Porter had listened to me from the beginning.

He knows how to reach me in the future though.

I’m at a loss as to why you have not posted on that other thread...you know, the one which OU landed one of the top JUCO players in the country...or am I just blind (could go either way)?

I can’t wait for his response.

I always try to keep you guys in the loop. When I know something. Then after I posted I felt bad because I didn’t wanna ruin his commitment
No problem in sharing what you know.

You didn't ruin anything. As discussed, it was BT that stretched out his "moment" by having the announcement of the announcement. And wasn't it Boynton that sent out the anticipatory tweet?

Just ready to move on from all the hype. I like the character of our staff and roster and ready to see how that works out. My guess is two years from now we will be fine with the choice.

I don't disagree, but this team could be "significantly" better over the next year or two if we have an elite, or really good scoring guard. It's the biggest weakness when looking at the current roster. I really like(d) the idea of seeing what we could accomplish over the next two seasons with T. Groves, with that piece being added.

Thompson isn't the only option to add, but he was probably the best one to impact the next year or two.
