Somebody pointed out in another thread that Dante did not get many minutes on Tuesday. I think he only got 4 minutes. Hurt? Sick? Doghouse?

It would seem that he would need as many minutes as possible right now to learn the system. Spangler played 29!

Thoughts?

Was wondering this also. He had played well enough in previous games that I had expected him to play significant minutes in games like this.

Hopefully gary, vbdad or leopard can shed some light for us.

I attributed it to the fact that he had a rash of TOs early. Plus I think Lon was trying to get Manyang some good time, and even Lattin. There are only so many minutes.. I didn't read too much into it.

Then why play Spangler so many?

I think he wasn't playing well. He was tentative. Got 2 quick turnovers in the first half and was subbed out. Made a basket in 2nd half and then another turnover. Came out and never saw the light of day again. He needs to pick it up.

One minute of mop up time in a blowout against Wisconsin. Something smells funny. Gary? vbdad?

very odd indeed. I mean, he didnt like the world on fire vs memphis or in the exhibitions but his play definitely didn't deserve to be cut back to zero unless there is something going on behind the scenes

It looks like he lost his post minutes to Manyang getting healthy and his wing minutes to Odomes. But for his size and versatility, it would be nice to see him get some more burn. Hope he's not doing it to himself.

IIRC, Buford has had some reported attitude issues while here (please correct me if I'm wrong). May be that he is just not cut out to not be "the man" on a team.

he hasn't played any wing min at OU yet ...

also Odomes got some small ball 4 min against wisky

because he is one of the best players on our team .. and we want to win games ..

in all big games expect spangler buddy Jordan and cousins to get 30+ min

The problem with that line of thought is March of 2014 and March of 2015. That's when Ryan Spangler contributed VERY LITTLE to the team because he was noticeably worn down. We can all agree that Ryan needs to be healthy and refreshed in March of 2016. Less minutes will contribute to that being a reality.

Not sure if right or not but my mind went to "attitude problems" too.

I don't really recall that. I am sure it was hard to stay positive the first semester when the NCAA wouldn't let him even practice. I hope that is not the case.

He is a good player that can and will help this team. A bunch of minutes open up next year. None of these young guys should get too frustrated this year. Three starting spots will open up as well as one primary reserve role. Even if a young guy doesn't get a starting role, he should get a spot as a key reserve if he works hard and maintains a good attitude. I would hate to lose Dante or any of these guys.

From what I heard from a guy close to the staff. Buford is directly behind Spangler and right now there are no mins to be had there. Not in the doghouse or hurt or attitude problems.

now my own opinion. Spangler is playing great basketball, buford is a 4 not a 3, With manyang healthy, and latting and Jamuni playing... there just isnt enough minutes right now.
Odomes played some of the 4 vs Wiscy because they didnt have much size.

Part of being a bigtime program, sometimes you sit.

They have move Odomes to the 4. This has hurt Dante's minutes and AK is going to get more and more at the 5. I think right now Dante is the 6th guy in a 4-5 rotation.

This makes sense from a versatility perspective, especially the way they're calling the games. If we can use someone like Odomes to draw fouls on their big men and penetrate against mismatches, we'll be able to open up the floor.

But ...If Spangler gets into foul trouble, I think you'll see Dante for extended stretches, especially against teams with big bodies.

So Odomes, at 6-5, is no longer a wing but a big? Wow. I thought he was all guard.. Shows how much I know!
