BYU and Air Force joining the new Big 12?

I do not get it.

BYU makes sense if they are going to try to hold this thing together. I don't get Air Force. I don't get a lot of today's developments.

That was just a rumor that the radio station that reported rebunked.

Me neither Tony, me neither. The Texas Mafia apparently.

This totally sucks.

Seriously, BYU and Air Force? That is what the Big "12" has become...the Texas Invitational Conference.

To me it is not a matter of "if" but "when" we regret this move.

BYU would be a great addition... but Air Force? huh? In this league?

Add Memphis (+$10,000,000 annually from FedEx) and Louisville (if possible).

I don't think adding a school as far away as BYU is a good idea. The closest Big 12 school is Texas Tech, and it's 850+ miles away. There are better options closer.

This new conference is garbage. Sorry, but it is.

I have been thinking this for a bit. Or possibly Cincinatti instead of Louisville.

You add Memphis and Louisville to the conference and the Big 12 would have an exciting new look in both football and basketball. Especially in basketball though.... Now the Big 12 controls what happens with team additions, instead of being added to the pac-10.

We need to offer memphis, that opens up a fairly large tv market, and we get the 10 mil from fedex

If OU is staying, I would prefer the conference stay at 10. I like the idea of a round robin schedule in football and basketball. Plus, I'm not sure if Louisville or Cincy could replace a full share. The Big X shouldn't add anyone just for the sake of growth.

Agreed.

If we are stuck in this garbage conference, best to make the most of the members we have instead of bringing in mid-majors.

I agree.

It's better than what we had and better than getting left out of a major conference (and it's HUGE for Iowa State and Baylor), but it's still nowhere near what it should be IMO.

This is all going to happen again eventually. The Big 10 is going to look to expand again, whether it's now or two years from now or ten. The Big 12 is still going to be one of the two weakest major conferences (along with the Big East, if it still exists). The new deal helps teams save face now, but it does very little to increase the long-term stability of the conference.

In my post above with Memphis and Louisville, I should have mentioned that was only if expansion is imminent. I agree that staying at 10 is a better option.

And we still have the worst conference commissioner in the universe.

What new conference? It's the same conference minus by far the worst two programs. Now everyone gets to play everyone twice and we all get twice the TV money. What's not to be excited about? If you don't like this "new" conference then you didn't like the Big 12 last year.

In basketball we've simply cut some dead weight. In football we're two top programs and then a bunch of mid majors.
