He colonized lands and almost wiped out 3 different countries populations. He was the biggest slave trader, mutilated prisoners, & literally worked tens of thousands to death. Yes there were many monsters of the time.

He was stripped of his powers by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand because he was a genocidal maniac. Imagine being to awful to be the governor of the West Indies in 1500.

Yall are completely..and I mean completely wrong on this. Please do some research besides just googling "is Columbus as bad as orangeman"

Really though, you are very misinformed

Okay, educate us then. Why was Columbus stripped of his power by the queen and king of Spain?

He was stripped of being the governor of the spanish colonies. I don't know why...even liberal sources admit that some of the charges against him were manufactored.

Does being stripped of a title mean you are guilty of genocide?

Again, I would urge you to go read his personal diary...and a copy that hasn't been edited...because those are out there too. You will be utterly surprised

Many different people testified at the time (there was an investigation) to his brutal treatment of the natives. That's not really in dispute.

There are diaries from the natives from those areas describing Columbus & his brothers’ torture tactics. I’m sure he didn’t believe he was a genocidal nightmare, so I doubt his diary will be written that way.

Of course it isn't...everything is black and white for you guys.

He did treat some badly, if you admit that...but it was for their own crimes.
Like I don't know, some tribes castrating boys that captured from different tribes.

I'm not saying he is a saint, but his intentions were good and noble and he had to make choices. I think he made them the best he could with what he had.

got a link to their diaries?
Maybe they were natives that were practiving human sacrifice? Maybe they were the natives raping other tribe's women

Like I said, it isn't black and white.

You have give no information to back this claim up.

You do understand that a person's diary is probably not the most unbiased source, right?

So you adding a bunch of maybes in there is your argument?

His intentions was to look for gold and slaves.

It is not in the least unbiased. Anyone who writes about himself puts himself in the best possible light.

haha ok. This wasn't an autobiography. It was a diary. A personal diary.
I don't know about you, but when I journal occasionaly, I don't write thinking that other people are going to read my writings. I write what is happening in my life and my feelings/thoughts.

"Christopher Columbus was great!"

"How do you know?

"He said so in his diary!"

"What about the dozens of people that contemporaneously testified that he was a vile slaver and brutal dictator?"

"All lying!"
