Capel gets another year.

3 Big XII losing records > 1 Big XII losing record
3 seasons with no postseason > 0 seasons with no post season.
2 overall record losing seasons > 0 overall losing seasons.

Capel's seat heat > Ford's seat heat.

Yeah, the rape charge(s) were ugly, and yeah his 2009 class has had some monster recruiting holes that are becoming apparent. But, it is pretty obvious to me why Capel's seat is hotter than Ford's. If the average opinion of Ford of OSU fans is any indication, Ford is already getting a little toasty.

Another year like this next season with a one and done, top 5 HS talent like Nash, then it will really get hot. But, as of right now, he's fine.

FIFY.

Like I said, who has won more NCAA games? Capel or Ford. Two crap seasons in a row I'll give you, but last years crap season featured 3 MCDAA type players.

This crap season featured a limitedly talented team of DIII transfers and JUCO's and yet both were about the same...excluding the off-the-court drama. Why Capel is on the "hot seat" and Ford isn't baffles me.

My source was from the beginning of the year, when it was expressed to me be someone in the AD that Capel had one more year after this. It is in rebuttal to a Trammel article and posters on here who says he is on the hotseat, and pointing out that one of our biggest rivals has worse problems than we do and their coach has not had the overall success and wondering why he isn't on the same "hotseat".

Fair enough?

Worse problems than us? OSU will at least be playing in the NIT, we can't even qualify for a post season tournament. Last time I checked, they were 18-12 and we are 13-17 heading to an identical 13-18 of last year. They didn't lose to a Division II school.

As for recruiting and the future, they have a Top 5 national recruit and we have a juco who averages 9 points a game.

Can you say 18-12 playing in a post season tournament vs 13-17 and sitting at home?

From 81-82 to 2005-2006, OU was playing post season basketball. That is 25 years in a row. Under Capel we have sat out for 3 out of 5. That is the reason for the hot seat.

I was scared to death when I saw this title.

I'm glad it's just an opinion after reading it.

When it was broken, it was the longest in the country.

I gave him a pass for '07. I thought those guys played hard and made the best, or least close to the best, of a bad situation.

But there is NO excuse for the debacles of 2010 and 2011. The problems with those two teams are all traced back to one source: Jeff Capel. Not Kelvin, not TMG, not Tiny, not WW........not ANYBODY but Jeff Capel.

It isn't like we don't have shoplifters!!! Don't forget that two of our guys celebrated the Texas win last year with a trip to Dillards.

That is everywhere!!!

Totally the same.

Glad you are objective on this one.

Only one guy has been charged.

But, if it truly baffles you and you can't see why Capel's job is in a more precarious situation than Ford's, I don't know what to tell you.

It is baffling, how many Elite Eights has Fords made it to?

Capel's job has nothing to do with Travis Ford. OU should always be better than OSU. Capel's job troubles come from those 25 consecutive post seasons that Sooner fans expect. He has failed 3 out of 5 on the job and with the current roster, next year does not look too promising since the schedule will be tougher.

Honestly, if OU was 18-12 right now, we would not be having this thread. Just remember, we couldn't beat Chaminade.

None, but he also hasn't had 3 of the worst seasons in program history! At what point do you stop countering the Elite Eight appearance against losing seasons? 4? 5?

Seriously, why is Capel getting any credit for that Elite Eight season? First off, those were Kelvin's guys (including Blake who was coming here regardless when Taylor signed). Second, it is pretty well documented that WW came here because of Blake, not Capel. Third, with the talent he had, that team should not have been a two seed (and should have met NC later in the tournament). Fourth, had he been able to hold the original class together when he came in, we have Griffin, Reynolds, James, and Warren. Lastly, he did not develop WW AT ALL!! He did him a major injustice. Warren was a lottery talent that Capel made a 2nd round pick.

Capel can't recruit, he is a sub-par coach (right now), and was over his head when he took this job. So long, Coach, maybe you will succeed elsewhere.

When you look around OU athletics, what sticks out.

Football - Big 12 Champs BCS Bowl Winners #6 final ranking.

Volleyball - NCAA Sweet Sixteen

Women's Soccer - NCAA Tournament

Men's Cross Country - Won Midwest Region and finished #5

Baseball - 14-0 and #2, and probably #1 next week.

Softball - National Top Ten

Track - Both Men and Women ranked in Top Ten

Men's Gymnastics - #1 in the nation

Women's Gymnastics - #4 in the nation.

Wrestling - #7 in the nation.

Women's Basketball - Top 25 and NCAA Lock.

Men's Basketball - 13-17

Who is on the hot seat and why?

I don't think what Williams (allegedly) did reflects all that poorly on Ford. As far as I know, Williams hadn't been considered a malcontent, sometimes you just get burned. I may be one of the few OSU fans that don't consider it a strike against Ford.

But, what's the answer to the question I asked? How much weight does that elite 8 season have? And how many poor seasons would it take to cancel that out?
