Capel on Animal at 7

Says Osby is the best player on the team. Makes you wonder what happened at Miss St.
 
Said he is 6'7" with a 39 inch vertical and 7ft wingspan with range out to the 3pt line.
 
based on the practice videos alone...he was arguable the most impressive

Capel said that there is a big difference in practice when Cade, Fitz and Pledge are not on the floor. From this intervew and the other two it seems like the depth chart looks a little like this at this point, due to injuries and new guys getting adjusted.

PG - Carl Blair - expected to start, despite not practicing until today
SG - Pledger - one of the 3 that knows what he's doing right now
G/F - Cade - expect the production and role that Crocker had last year
F - Fitz - Capel said "the only player with a post up game"
F - Thompson - 6'9 and can step out

Bench
Cameron Clark - impressive so far, 1st off the bench
Calvin Newell - looks like a freshman right now, but will be forced to play PG
CJ Washington - a little lost right now, but an energy guy that will be needed
Ahmed - I didn't expect him to play much this year but Capel talks like he'll be in the mix
Franklin - seems like Capel trusts him to play a backup PG role behind Newell
Taylor - can shoot and has size, just needs to get healthy and learn the offense
Neal - has the skill, but has a ways to go. Will be a good player in years to come.
Honore - Seems to me he could be useful this year, but my guess is that he may have to work his way out of the dog house with Capel.

As for what to expect from Osby, I think he'll be something of a comintation of Nate Carter and Juan Patillo. Skill level similar to Carter and athleticism similar to Patillo but maybe not as agressive as either of them.
 
Kinda disappointing that Cam Clark won't be able to come in and start immediately, but what can you do. I hope things click for CJ Washington. We are gonna need him this year.

I assume Hardrick was not mentioned?

I think Cam Clark would start as a freshman for most teams and he may start a few games this year. He just happens to play a similar position as Cade, otherwise he would start. I think Cam will have a similar year as Crocker did as a freshman. He just might not get as many minutes.

Unfortunately that's probably the right read. Capel did not sound positive at all during this interview. He had something negative to say about everybody.

Here is where reality is setting in...

We are relying on Juco Transfers and Freshmen to be our core of the team...gonna be a lot of inconsistency this year...a lot of mistakes...

But what i do like from the practice videos is there was a lot of unselfish play and ball movement...maybe guys not always making the best decision and some over passing, but i'll take that over selfishness anyday...

Good thing about this team is that they will get better as the season progresses, so i hope people arent too bummed if we lose a couple of games early or dont perform well in our "easy" games...could very well happen...

Another note from the video...we are very weak down low, i think we all realized this but after the video it really stuck out...

I would argue that 3 returning players, Cade (Sr), Bird (So) and Fitz (So) are the core of the team, but I agree that we will be relying heavily on Freshmen, Juco and a transfer. There are a thousand ways this season could go really wrong and a few that it could go really right. I have a feeling that it will fall in the middle.

And don't forget Big Puma!!!

I would agree with this, and would also throw out that I liked what Thompson was doing in the practice video. I also agree with the second part, what I'm "hoping" for as far a being a "good" team is that our starting five can play smart basketball and carry us through the non-conference.

Is Cam not coming in and starting right away a concern? Don't think that he has the same "vibe" as Tiny or TMG, but he was just as highly recruited...not sure he came here to be a bench player (although I know that there are plenty of minutes for him).

I agree, i guess what i really mean is that our depth is made up of those other type of players...i do like the 3 guys with experience, our core...
