Capel Quote

your being retarded.. a coach CANT say that about his players EVER.. thats such a stupid move (if i was cade i would be so pissed).. i think he knows hes gone and is saying Eff it.. might as well go out swinging..

I sincerely hope you're being sarcastic, because there is way too much irony in that post.

I am just saying in this situation (public forum), you have to take your own responsibility and just say "I have to do a better job coaching". However, I can completely understand why he wouldn't say that at this point in time.

Those kids aren't dumb. They know we need better players as well. It also sets a tone for the players we have to get better.

Exactly. The only people getting their panties in a wad are a couple of internet posters. Who are we to assume the players are pissed at what Capel said? You think they would be mad at getting a talented guard like Cezar or a solid big man in Jurick? Sheesh. Some people...

So you want Capel to be a sunshine pumper? He was saying how the team has grown and he sees a bright future with these kids last night and he got torn apart on here. The man can do no right for some of you, and it pisses me the hell off. Look, I understand many want him fired. But stop being so nit-picky, holy ****.

I have no idea how you think discussing that comment is "nit-picky" but ok you're angry cause you like Capel.

Ok I'll say it. I'm going to wait for Stoops to make a similar comment and see how well it goes over. Wait of course he always says "WE need to play better" and "WE need to do a better job."

I'm sure Capel would love it if some players said they needed a better coach.

Someone photoshop this pic from tonight and put in a bubble quote saying "but, but my players suck"

How much better of a record could Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Coach K, Tom Izzo, ... have had with this roster? Yes I know it is Capel's fault he has this roster with which to work, but this was probably his best coaching job yet. There was absolutely no one picking OU to win 5 conference games or play in the quarter finals of the Big 12 tournament.

More from Emig:

Need to add to Jeff Capel quote on his players. It's causing a bit of a stir, and that's my fault...

... Here we go: "We have to get better players. It's nothing against our guys. I think we have good players...

... "But we have to continually add better players."

Ok, I'll back off my stance some since apparently Capel qualified his statement a little. As Emig didn't quite post the remaining portion of that statement.

So, I'll leave it alone for now. It is still a fine line with which it is just better to avoid in my opinion.

well we do have to get better players. he's to blame, partly because he hates recruiting this state. but he gives a non-coach speak answer and still gets blasted.

edit: soonerman beat me to the point.
Yo DO realize that Capel had to scramble when his roster was unexpectedly depleted last year.right.You DO realize Capel had to find the best that he could find in about a 6 week period for the April signing period which is notoriously lean as most players either signed or committed to teams prior to April? Capel is looking this year for a point and a big and has had his targets pegged for a long time.Odds are he will get better players in these recruits.

That sound you just heard was one blame Capel argument going out the window...

@GuerinEmig Capel: "There's been a lot of sources in lot of different places. If you don't hear it from me or don't hear it from Joe, don't believe it"

Ive heard enough BS coach-speak from you the past few years, Jeff. As for Joe, I tried to hear it from him but he chooses not to say whether you will be in charge next year.

No doubt...:p:p

This board is like an entire pack of starving dogs, and JC is a piece of raw, bloody meat.:p

Jeff knows and you don't. This obviously makes you angry. Get over it. We're gonna hear if Capel is getting the axe or not soon enough.

We lost two players that might have been considered a surprise. Two. But the cupboard was much more bare than that. Capel had to sign, what, six or seven players in the offseason? Sorry, but only poor recruiting and poor program management over a period of time accounts for a roster being that depleted.

yeah, i DO realize that. i was around. it's the only reason tyler neal ever got a look, or else he'd be contributing on a another roster. much like spangler next year.
