Capel to get 2 more years?

There was a poll done on this board and well over 50% of the board believed it was 2 or less for the Sooners this year heading into the conference season.

I'm not trying to argue or anything. I should have worded my question better...Since, IMO, I think we'll finish 13-18 (5-11) this year, what does the record need to be next year? Again, not trying to argue...

I haven't looked at next years non conference but I guess we will have 18 conference games next year so if we win 9-10 games in conference and 20+ games overall would be good and I would be willing to give him another year.

That was just dumb then.

I was as down on Capel and this team as anybody to start the season, and I knew we'd win more than 2 games. 4-6 was my guess. NOBODY in the Big 12wins less than 2 games. That just doesn't happen.

And I'm sorry, but I won't gauge Capel's success based on guesses on Big 12 wins from fans on this message board. Heck, I don't even think using preseason info is the best way to gauge it either, but that makes more sense then a fan poll.

He hasn't won 10 conference games in 2 years. How can he win 10+ conference games in one season.

I think 20 wins/9 conf wins is about right. We'll have to see. The roster doesn't look like it will improve. As much as I rib Cade, he's the heart of the team. All emotions run through him. The rest of the guys are pretty low key dudes. Maybe Osby can take over that leadership. The guy that may need to step up the most is Cam. He needs to play meaner and take control a little offensively. I think it's easy to say he's our best scorer (Osby, aside).

I'll totally admit though...I hoped to win more than 4 and fully thought we'd win less (1-2). You have to take into account a team like Tech though. Who thought they would be this bad? Baylor? Most thought both squads would be better, in Baylor's case, a lot better.

Just to clarify, if we finish 4-12 this year you think 8-10 is good enough next year?

Or are you confident we win 1 of the remaining conference games to get to 5-11 and therefore 9-9 next year?

Not arguing...just clarifying.

I'm crazy enough to think we finish 6-10 this year.

Either way, 9-9 or better next year and 20 wins.

the poll was done just before conference play and judging by how this team looked in the non conference with the bad losses and horrible wins, it would have been dumb to pick more that 4 wins imo.

more conference games next year. play the bad teams we should beat twice

Iowa St is the only bad team we're adding to the schedule.

Kansas State, Mizzou and KU are being added to the schedule along with them.

your right. I kept thinking of colorado and nebraska. gonna take a while to get out of that line of thinking

ISU is the only team we play twice for the first time next year. We don't play Colorado, and we lost to Baylor on the road. We'll see about Tech next year. We could beat them twice. We also play Kansas twice, Kansas State and Missouri twice. Those could all be losses. Oklahoma State is getting a star recruit, we'll see about their team though. A&M will always be tough for us because they defend and we don't. I don't really see us beating Texas either.

ISU should be good next year IMO...Additions: Chris Allen (avg 8.2 @ MichSt 09-10), Chris Babb (avg 9.2 @ PennSt 09-10), Royce White (transferred in from Minnesota, was a top 15 C prospect), Anthony Booker (avg 6ppg/4rpg in limited minutes @ SouthernIllini 09-10)...

Definitely. They return Christopherson, Ejim, Godfrey and Palu as well.

That might have the makings of an NCAA team.

KSU loses A LOT. Not sure what they have coming in and we played toe to toe with them most of that game, so I'd say it's not out of the realm of possibility we could beat them at home.

I think we are 2-6 at best against those 3 teams. Never count out KSU, heck they may make a run in the NCAA Tournament this year. Frank Martin is a damn good coach, I didn't think much of him when he took over but he was a home run hire there.

I wasn't counting them out. I was describing what actually happened THIS year with two teams that SHOULD be far apart in experience and talent. Just saying, we play better at home and, with that logic, I don't see how you would think it's far-fetched that we beat them here...especially next year with a bigger front line.

I like Frank too.

6-10 was a stretch.

He has to do better than .500 in conference next year. Anything less he should get fired.

Just looking on paper...
We should SWEEP Tech, KST and ISU(+6)
We should AT LEAST split with OSU, Tex, Bay, and aTm(+4)
We know That Miz and KU will be good but not beatable but LETS JUST SAY that they sweep us(0)
THATS 10 WINS with just achieving what should be done. Thats not going out on a limb or expecting more...thats just what should happen next year. I think that we can do more than 10 but 10 should be the in conference wins that keeps him another year.

I don't really agree with how you got to your total, but I think ten is the right amount of wins to expect.
