Capel's legacy?

I will remember Jeff as a coach who coached VCU to 5th place in the Colonial Conference his last year and Joe C thought he was OU good.

I hope we hire a coach who has a few skins this time instead of going on the cheap.

Buzz Williams finished 9th this year and missed the tourney. Is that an upgrade worth a $3 million buyout?

Marquette is in the Tourney

Still think Wayman's better but I agree with the sentiment.

I agree.

Griffin will be a better player in the NBA than Wayman was, but Wayman was the best basketball player in the history of OU basketball. 3 time consensus all-american, a lot of points and rebounds. Griffin is easily #2, though.

After OU bounces back and Capel lands somewhere else and does a really good job for a number of years, I'll remember his time here as a bad combination of things that just didn't work out. Or as a rough patch every coach endures.

Wayman was better in college, but in the pros it's not even close: Blake wins b/w those 2.

This. And I wish more of our posters felt this way. Not flaming, by the way. I just wish things had worked out better for all concerned.

Capel's legacy is still to be determined. His tenure here will be rewritten, depending upon our and his future success, respectively.

i was really excited about Capel when we first hired him for the reason that were, well...exciting. i even attended the press conference on campus.

but his legacy? i think it will be a rather disappointing one. Blake owns the Elite 8 run whereas Capel owns the failed recruits, the sloppy play, the relative NCAA sanction danger and not having a PG who could play PG like a real PG.

i'm glad they made the decision and we can move forward. there still wasnt much hope for him next year if he had even received it.

Several red flags.

Losing the heart of the Sampson recruiting class. I know that is not unusual but I think the top coaches retain more than he did.

Bad losing streak ending first year.

Bad losing streak ending last year.

Gallon/OT incident not good but the thing that chilled me was that Cline left for what appeared to be a lesser job. That didn't pass the smell test.

Seemingly little recruiting activity of late.

Some or all may not have been a factor but the buck stopped with Capel.

Frankly, I thought he would get another year with the late wins over OSU and Baylor though a clearly diminished Baylor. When the best scoring option left on the floor was Acey Baylor had to be in big trouble. The bad loss to Tech had to hurt a lot.
