This dude is one hell of a coach and to everyone calling for his head, shame on you. He will turn the ship around and keep his job IMHO

I hope you are right and I was wrong, that means OU basketball is back to where is belongs. That is all any of us true sooner fans want is to be back to winning 20-25 games a year and finishing in the top 4 of the conference.

That said im still not sure which is the true Jeff Capel. The one that pulled off an amazing comeback yesterday, or the one that led the team to a 13-18 record last year and an embarrassing 5 game stretch this year

Generally, OU fans are idiots. Put the anonymity the internet offers and you have a cess pool for ignorance.

Let's not forget that OU fans wanted to fire Stoops after the close WINS at the start of this football season.

OU fans have also consisently hated every offensive cordinator that has been here for a few seasons (Mangino, Long, Wilson).

OU fans thought we were going to better off without Kelvin. He was not a popular coach around here at all because he a slowed down offense with a strong defensive game. Those weren't those most exciting to watch. Especially for fans still use to Billy Ball.

ORU is garbage. they are 4-5 against weak competition. I dont see why everyone is putting so much stock into a win against freaking oru. Do you not remember what capel has done last year and earlier this year

amazing how low the expectations are now. Capel beats oru and now hes a good coach

Last year he had transfers and players leaving. This is a new bunch. Give him a couple of years of good recruiting. He does have some promising players on the team. I am not for getting rid of Capel.

No OU fan with any common sense would want Stoops fired. As for Capel, it is going to take more talent to turn the ship around. With OU's current roster, OU is not going to be one of the top 5 teams in the big 12 for a couple years.

OU fans didn't like Kelvin because his offense was boring, but he won games and that's what matters. Ultimately Capel should be judged on wins and loses.

Does he not deserve any of the blame for the guys leaving?:fitz80s:

Willie was a two year player regardless. Jeff knew that from the beginning. Little he could do about that.

Tiny was going to stay, but left due to fear of NCAA violations. To which Jeff (allegedly) had no part.

TMG was a cancer and an idiot. You can't convince someone like that to stay who thinks he's going to the NBA... despite not being able to play defense or even beat out that kid from Colorado for Big 12 Freshman of the year.

Their absences were pretty much out of Jeff's hands.

First, I am for giving Jeff this year and next and then evaluating the situation.

However, I do think Jeff is at fault for our current situation. He has not recruited very smartly. OU isn't Duke or Kentucky and we don't have the recruiting wheelbase to rebuild our roster every year. Jeff has thought too much of himself as a recruiter.

Jeff has shot for the moon and ended up with scraps off the floor too many times. He has taken too many academic risks in order to get a little higher athlete. He has found himself playing without a point guard every year but last year, and this is a recipe for disaster.

He has a lot to learn about how to win at OU, how to win without a team full of allstars, and how to build some continuity within his program. He seems to be an awfully smart guy though and so hopefully he is and has learned as he has gone along, and I, for one, am willing to give him some time to figure out how to consistently win here. I think he knows basketball and will ultimately be a very good coach. He is just young and inexperianced.

I said before the year started, I didn't expect much from this team. Actually, they have performed about like I thought they would. He needs some height and he needs a true point guard. Maybe Blair can develop into that by years end, I don't know. His lateral quickness is a problem, but who knows.

Hard to stay positive when we are playing poorly, but I would encourage everyone to stay behind the team. Essentially, Jeff is starting over this year. And yes , this is his fault. But, that doesn't mean he should be fired. I think he can get it going by next year and we should hang in there until the end of next year and then re-assess.

Austin Johnson was a hell of a point guard

Capel is building from scratch right now. It usually takes about 3-4 years to build a program from nothing.

I honestly didn't see this steep of a drop-off after Blake left. A few spoiled players/quitters later and here we are.

Capel is young, but knows a lot about the game. I still have a lot of faith in Joe Castiglione's ability to hire quality coaches. He hired Capel for a reason.

If this were football, it'd be different. But we're not a team that's gonna bring in top ranked recruiting classes in basketball. We have to build... A system with the players has to be installed. Coaches have to cater to their players. They can't keep the same strategy year in and year out for every single position, you don't know how each player is going to adapt to the college game until they do it on the court. The philosophy never changes, but a lot of other things have to change in order to stay ahead of the curve.

Right now we're in the learning phase. Capel is learning, and this team is growing. It's going to take time.

Capel will be here for awhile, and we'll be a quality team soon enough. This, IMO, will be the last time we sit out of the dance for awhile.

In my opinion, Austin Johnson was a good player but not a true point guard. TMG is the only true point guard of the Capel era in my opinion. We got by with Austin at the point, but he was better on the wing.
