Is $250,000 an appropriate bond for false imprisonment? It seems to me like the arresting officers in Baltimore are political victims. If it was a bad arrest, they should get suspended or fired but prison seems a bit severe. Now if they made a bad arrest and then beat the man, that is a totally different situation

false imprisonment + movement = kidnapping.

kidnapping + death = murder under FMR at least

so $250k is not "excessive" nor is it just FI.

of course you also get to a felony if the FI included excessive use of force ... but with movement you dont even need to make that determination.

Is that true for a cop? I ask because if a cop makes a bad arrest he/she will necessarily move the suspect.

I follow what you are saying but they were not charged for the more serious crimes. That is why I find it odd.

I think the kid that got $500,000 bail for turning himself in is really getting screwed. It seems to me if you turn yourself in you are not a flight risk or not much of a flight risk. I would also like to see society reward people that do the right thing. This kid did the right thing (after he did something wrong). I see him as a prime candidate for a deferred disposition. Pay a fine, make restitution, do some community service and maybe even a weekend or two in jail (to send a message) then probation. If no other crimes, remove it from his record.

I truly believe many 18 year olds could have gotten caught up in that stupidity. I could certainly see myself at that age being an idiot. You just don't think maturely or rationally at that age. We were all impulsive at that age. Perhaps many can honestly say there is no way they would have participated but I don't believe I can say that about myself. Until I was actually in that situation, I am not sure. (At my current age, I can say I would not have been involved)

It doesn't do much to encourage other kids and their parents to do the right thing, either.

Exactly. Baltimore didn't even charge most of the people arrested the night of the riot. The kid was wrong to vandalize a police car. I am not remotely making excuses for that behavior. However, when you recognize the error of your ways and make an effort to address them, that should carry some weight in my opinion. This kids bond is literally more than 50% higher than the cop that is accused of murder. That is crazy.

As usual conservative trash defends and minimizes murderers while assisinating the character of the dead.

Just like they put that piece of garbage Chris Kyle on a pedestal. News flash. Idiots like Chris Kyle and abusive police do not make us safe. Apple and other California innovation create wealth which keeps us safe. Guns, the military, violence and the police make us less safe.

There's a reason why conservative states are ignorant and poor. The people are stupid and not any different from the Middle East. Texas is the ass of the country. It's sad to see Oklahomans bandwagon Texas ignorance.

the normal issues for size of a bond would all favor a police officer. I dont think you'd break up the FMR just because it turns out that the "bad ride" caused the spinal injury which led to his death. Ive never been a DA though, and not in Maryland where the statutes aren't as articulated as they are here, and I shy away from capital cases.

is it possible for you or coolm to have a conversation of debate without having to resort to name calling?

That is the main reason why i questioned coolm's debating champion claims. I don't know if i have ever seen a civil debate with him on here

coolm didn't do anything in this thread. He answered some questions I asked.

and you continue to make personal digs at me no matter what I do. what is your obsession?

Big deal, I was a debater in Enid during the Jimmy Kincaid and Portia Smith days (when Ok sent both LD finalists at nats). I also debated at UCO undergrad under Mr Duke and Moot Courted in Law School - once in front of members of the Missouri Supreme Court over internet jurisdiction.

What is so big about making that claim? Yes, believe it or not biker fellas were once regular people. Get over it.

just that you seem to have an inability to have a civil debate on a message board.:ez-laugh:

denver, sorry for ruining the one thread on this board where coolm hadn't insulted anyone yet.
