"football school" negatively affect recruiting a first-rate, proven bball coach?

I'm not sure why it would. That factor is vastly overstated IMO

I don't think that's as true now as it was in the past, but I do believe there are some coaches whose egos won't allow them to share the limelight with a football coach like Coach Stoops. Hopefully, people like that are weeded out early in the process.

I think our lukewarm fan support is a bigger problem.

I would imagine it depends on the personality of the coach in question.

I'm starting to believe these two things

#1 There may exist a impression in the coaching circle that we are going to get hammered by the NCAA

#2 This impression may cause a candidate to up his negotiation price therefore knocking us out the picture

if your after a calipari or little ricky pitino then yes it would be a problem

He didn't ask, "Does it make hiring a first-rate, proven bball coach impossible?" He asked if it made it harder.

(and I don't really have any idea)

Agree!! Ohio State has a good bb coach, Florida has a good coach, Texas has a good coach and there are others. State of the program and NCAA are bigger problems.

YES IT DOES AFFECT IT.

There are a large number of coaches who don't want to be second fiddle to another sport.

Oklahoma is a football state. Coaches who grew up in basketball states just don't understand it and have trouble with it. You read some of Capel's comments because he played in a basketball state.

guys all the coaches you named were not considered big time hires when they were brought on. No OU will never draw a "big name" because of football coaches like that want to be the big dogs on campus. I think the lack of support for bball drove Jeff nuts. He could never understand why Sam Bradford could not go anywhere and not get mobbed, and Blake was basically left alone.

I can't testify to any difference between how the fans treated Sam & Blake when they were out in public. But, I think Jeff didn't understand Oklahomans to a certain extent. Over the years, I've seen several comments about how celebrities, Paul McCartney & Garth Brooks in particular, appreciated the fact that when they were in Oklahoma, the people gave them their privacy.

No the original question. What does those are all those empty seats for the last 6 year.

I don't think so. Football school or not, we are not on the level of Duke, NC, Kentucky, Indiana, etc... in terms of beasketball prestige. If those schools had good football teams, it wouldn't diminish their basketball program perception, IMO.

i really don't think that is true. I'm guessing they were treated pretty similarily by fans outside of campus. Mostly hey good luck how are you doings? and few autographs, but nobody probably goes nuts for either one like they do at other places

this. I remember the story about blake at a mcdonalds. Capel almost sounded offeneded that people left him alone. Thats just how we are. We realize that these sports figures are people too
