This thing is really picking up steam. Eddie Sutton endorsed him to be the next coach yesterday.

Then there's this from Pat Jones:

@CBS11BillJones: Pat Jones on @sportsanimal when asked about Doug Gottlieb wanting to be Oklahoma State head coach: "Well, I'd like to be an astronaut."

Get your popcorn ready. This is going to be fun to watch.

That's good news for the Sooners hire the boy

Not even the aggies are dumb enough to make that hire.

didn't he get caught stealing from his teammates when playing at osu?

OU

I actually think Doug would be a good coach. But I don't think OSU is the right situation for him. I think the next coach is destined for mediocrity unless he is experienced at rebuilding a program.

Since he has never coached in his life...There is no way to say he would be good or bad.....I just hope who ever they hire is as bad at coaching as Travis Ford.

Coaching itself isn't as hard as everyone thinks. The recruiting and program management which trip people up, Gottlieb should be able to get help with the former. Don't forget his brother is a very successful assistant coach at Oregon State, previously Cal and both are the sons of a former prominent AAU coach.

I honestly don't think it's that bad of a hire, they could do a lot worse.

Coaching isn't what tripped up Ford. Player development and roster management were both like a foreign languages to him.

Unless they are going to make a splash hire, the only way to build momentum post-Ford is to hire Gottlieb.

It's wouldn't be a bad hire. Doug Gottlieb is the kind of high risk, high reward hire that could be a home run, and could also be a disaster.

OSU is not some premiere job, they aren't going to go in and get some big time name to coach their team. If I was a fan, I'd much rather have that happen than some third rate older head coach, or some up and comer that is looking to bolt for the first open east coach job if he has some success.

Also, Doug will be extremely cheap, which has got to be a factor in this deal. They couldn't go out and buy a name like we did with Lon Kruger because of their curent financial situation.

Not that they would hire him or that he would take it but Kelvin Sampson is the exact type of coach they need. I think this has been brought up before and I don't think KS would go there now. They could probably get and possibly could afford someone like him.

I agree. I'm glad it would never happen, I would not want to be facing KS coached teams every year.

Isn't Gottlieb the player that wore his shorts backwards and couldn't hit free throws?

Actually it was coaching. How he used post players and wings did him in.
From day one he has ran off the majority of his post players. The team he inherited had elite 8 and beyond potential. He took over 2 McD's AA and Harris and Muonelo but he ran off Adams and Thomas. Right there was the beginning of the end. He started a PG at SG and moved Muonelo to the 4 and 5 position.

His Small forwards are always playing the 4 spot. Nash, Hamilton, Muonelo, Burton, Williams and so on and so on. His best year was Marcus Smart's first year. Thats b/c Brian Williams got hurt and it forced Ford to play Jurick at Center and Cobbins at the 4 and Nash at the 3. Once Williams came back from injury, that team started to decline.

There should be a list. And Gottlieb should be on it but not at the top. To get rid of ford and bring in a coach with no coaching exerience seems to stupid.

Marshall, Sampson, Williams, Amaker, Stephens, and few other should be looked at before getting Gottlieb. If they think Gottlieb is going to bring the fan base back they are mistaken. Winning will only do that.

Pat Jones says he's hearing Buzz Williams. FWIW.

Doug has no coaching experience, correct? I don't think osu can take that chance. I think Doug "might" be a good coach down the road, but he needs an assistants job, and needs to learn. Plus, the osu program isn't in the type of shape to bring a guy like him in. They need somebody experienced, who can build.

Buzz would be an interesting hire. A lot of OU fans, me included, or intrigued by him at OU. Recruits Texas well, iirc. His teams always seem to win.

If Kelvin went to osu (and I don't think he would, as I'm not sure the UH job isn't better right now than the osu job), I'd vomit. Literally. All over the person who happened to be standing next to me when I found out.

I agree on Doug but I doubt he would leave what he's doing to take an assistant's position. Maybe he'd do that for them. It'd have to be the right HC, I reckon. He's in an interesting position. He'd be under a huge amount of pressure and expectations there as HC and the job is going to be rough for anyone for a couple of years at least. I think it's too much without any coaching experience. The chances of a complete implosion might be higher than any long term improvement.
