Doug Gottlieb: Arkansas is a better fit for Buzz than OU

Listening to Doug on 810 AM WHB in Kansas City. He is on every Tuesday at noon.

I'll post the link to the podcast when it's up.

1.) Buzz is a better fit for Arkansas than OU, however the SEC doesn't allow 2 time transfers like the Big 12 does. Buzz likes to recruit JUCO, so this could come into play if Arkansas and OU are both calling. Also acknowledges Buzz has some ties to Oklahoma but says if both come calling Buzz would choose Arkansas.

2.) Doug has been told that some of the guys Joe is interested in are still playing, but doesn't have any names "officially".

3.) Has heard Blaine Taylor (aka Joseph Stalin) at ODU has been contacted.

4.) Thinks Tad Boyle is in play, but does not believe Joe will go after Shaka Zulu at VCU. Says since OU went after an unproven coach in Capel Joe will probably not make that mistake again and human nature is to do the opposite of something that didn't work. Referenced Bo Ryan as a name that could come up, but hasn't heard the name.

5.) Believes Chris Mack is in play for both OU and NC State.

6.) If Turgeon goes to Arkansas then it could be interesting to see how it all shakes out with Oklahoma. Not sure why he said this?

He doesn't. I like Doug's commentary and all but he doesn't know any better than anyone else.

Arkansas is probably a better program and they will pay more so I wouldn't be surprised if it shakes out that way.

Earlier they had a beat writer for Arkansas on the show and he said Arkansas was 2nd in SEC attendance this past year to Kentucky. They averaged 12K fans and that was really low for them and is why Pelphrey was fired. Even in a down year that is more than OU averaged in the elite 8 season with BG.

I know it's sacrilege around these parts but I like listening to Dougie, he is inciteful and has some good points at times. He also knows his college basketball.

Doug was on with Mark Rodgers just now, he mentioned OU should call Bo Ryan,Bruce Weber, and the BYU coach. Doug said OU will probably go after an experienced coach.

Not saying Buzz prefers these things because I don't know what he prefers, but Arkansas is a better job IMO. Don't know about their practice facilities, but they have a better arena and fan support. Wouldn't be shocked to see them pay more as well. Furthermore, it'll be much easier to win in the SEC than Big 12.

One thing I will say though that cannot be measured, is the intangible quality that OU's administration provides. As Coach Sampson elaborated on earlier this week, few--if any--admins are better than Joe C. and Boren. I think this could be the wild card should Buzz decide between OU and Marquette, OU and Arkansas, etc.

Either he said on KC radio that neither Arkansas or Mizzou have practice facilities, but both will after the Anderson deal is over. Or the beat writer for Arkansas said this.

So, it sounds like both Mizzou and Arkansas will be building a practice facility in the offseason.

Buzz also has 4 young kids...that could play into this as well. Where would he rather raise kids? I'm not saying any place is better than the other. Just a thought.
