Doyel article

Can someone help me because I’ve missed something? What rule did OU break? I think folks with such a negative attitude are going by what is being reported by people who are speculating and then speaking as if it's truth. Yes this is a message board and people can have an opposite opinion but I think posters go too far with their opinions by trying to present them as fact. I read what tiny said and it seems that there are a few posters who want to ignore his version for the doom and gloom of some writer's who know everything basically second hand. At some point there has to be some objectivity with the argument a poster is presenting for it to be seen as being conversation and not doom and gloom.

We are not getting the death penalty. Maybe they ban us from the post season for a year will be about it and maybe a loss of a scholarship for a couple of years. Some of you guys need to take a deep breath and relax this is not the end of the world.

Not a post season ban?!?!? How will the team recover from not getting to play as the 10th seed in the Big XII tourney? Does that mean that the 5 seed would get a first round bye, too?

If OT arranged the "loan" he could have easily done it without OU having any knowledge. The fact remains is that he was part of OU basketball and the program should pay the penalty. But I don't see any lack of institutional control. This was also after Tiny had signed so it would be hard to alledge that it was enticement for him to sign with OU.

If OT just referred Tiny to the financial advisor and was not involved in the loan being secured I suspect that coaches make that kind of referral in many instances.

I don't think they can establish the financial advisor as an OU supporter. Him showing up on campus is not enough. Most business people show up where clients are located.

Why the financial advisor was fired is another issue. I don't see the company worrying about a NCAA violation. Maybe making a bad loan, but $3,000 is pretty small and probably not a big deal to the company.

The continual hints that Willie is also involved in some way is troubling.

This guy Doyel is an attention whore. His article is crap. WW and Tiny were the best players last year? Tiny didn't even start a lot of games and WW was hurt half the season. Regardless that is a slight to Crocker, Cade and even TMG.

Also, since when is 300 illegal phone calls "horrific"? where talking about phone calls! over a period of years, not all in one month. also the 3k was loaned not handed out, and was not loaned by anyone empoyed by they university.

WW and Tiny are both now predicted 1st rounders by some NBA prognosticaters, so he is also wrong there.

I am glad this douche isn't living in Oklahoma anymore, he is not welcome by me.

Read the guy's bio...he is a shock jock with a keyboard. Not saying that if the worst case scenario is a reality things are looking great, but let's put everything into context.

The USC and OU situations are not similar. USC stonewalled the NCAA, OU has fully cooperated.

Exactly. The fact that Doyel's trying to justify it and say they go hand-in-hand is laughable at best.

The fact of the matter is that what OU did possibly renders some sort of punishment, but the death penalty? Please.

Ever since SMU's death penalty destroyed their program the NCAA vowed to never deliver that harsh of a punishment unless they absolutely had to. Now basketball may be a slight difference than football, but I'm pretty sure the NCAA applied that to all sports when they discussed the SMU situation years later. I'm sorry, but $3,000 dollars from a financial advisor (which the charges are still pending), and one extra phone call per week from the Sampson administration doesn't come close to SMU, and other football/basketball programs that were caught cheating in the past.

I'm sorry but if Michigan didn't receive the death penalty for the Ed Martin scandal, or Alabama for the Albert Means situation in football, etc., etc., then no way should OU receive it.

Its almost June, which basically means its hard to come up with interesting articles during the college basketball offseason. That's why Doyel created this article.

to say we derserve the death penalty is beyond ridiculous. yeah his whole family if from Oklahoma, guess where he went to school?

I wonder what he would mean by death penalty? I was thinking any post-season ban longer than 2 years and a loss of scholarships would be the death penalty.

Exactly. I was just about to type the same thing regarding Doyel.

I took it as the death penalty the same way SMU had it.

Which makes his proposal even more hilarious.

You guys do realize that Doyel's information comes from Greg Swaim don't you? What punishment did Ohio State get for Troy Smith taking $5,000 from a booster? The situation is bad enough without going overboard with speculation.

His info doesn't come from Swaim... he pulled all that info from the Daily Oklahoman, Tulsa World, TMZ, and other press releases.

By all accounts Doyel and Swaim are friends. I am talking about the death penalty talk and the general downgrading of OU. If you don't think at least some of that comes from Swaim, then you are kidding yourself.

Is that Swaim guy still around? I thought he was kicked off the radio in stillwater. I doubt doyle would use any info that guy provided unless he was desperate.

It doesn't look good when you just get off probation and get caught cheating again though.
