Doyel article

Basically, he's gained the formula for obtaining publicity in sports writing: Say completely outlandish statements and act like a clown in the process.

It has worked for Traber, hasn't it?

Is that Swaim guy still around? I thought he was kicked off the radio in stillwater. I doubt doyle would use any info that guy provided unless he was desperate.

It doesn't look good when you just get off probation and get caught cheating again though.

This is exactly the kind of statement that I'm referring to when I say posters expressing their opinion as if it is fact. When did OU get caught cheating or did I missed something. I'm not saying they didn't cheat because I don't know. Unless there have been some new developments from the people who know the facts, this statement is incorrect.

Swaim isn't even in the business anymore. The guy is the mayor of Garber or something. No one is getting any info from him.

A few random thoughts:

That guy looks and acts like an idiot. Click that link on the radio show stuff if you disagree. Quit trying so hard, it shows.

Instead of wondering about death penalty talk and comparisons to SMU football, how about looking at BAYLOR basketball recently? Did Tiny kill Beau Gerber? Did Capel help cover it up? Did the program whose people did that kind of stuff get the death penalty? Oh, sorry, no more article.

Man, this time of year sucks for sports columns. Get ready for a summer full of speculation-filled OU basketball articles from Sittler and Tramel (and Emig, it appears) before football starts up and they can get back to work.

And finally, I don't care if it turns out that everybody's innocent as a newborn baby on this deal. I'm sick and freaking tired of people associating OU athletics with cheating. It's gone on in one form or another most of my life. If you're cheating, please stop. If you're not, please stay out of (and be sure all employees stay out of) situations that look like you are.

I wonder what he would mean by death penalty? I was thinking any post-season ban longer than 2 years and a loss of scholarships would be the death penalty.

The death penalty means they completely kill the program for a few years. Then you start all over from scratch. A post season ban and loss of scholarships is no death penalty.

There is plenty of reason to worry the NCAA is gonna come down hard on us. But we will not get the death penalty. They won't even consider it.

I wouldn't be so sure of that and I will throw in the USC investigation as well as a possible death penalty case depending on what they find and USC is a repeat offender like OU is. I am someone who can't stand Doyel one bit but I would have to agree with him on this one.

You guys do realize that Doyel's information comes from Greg Swaim don't you? What punishment did Ohio State get for Troy Smith taking $5,000 from a booster? The situation is bad enough without going overboard with speculation.

It's not speculation at all. Ohio State did not have an assistant coach linked to the booster. Adding a coach to the mix changes the story completely and I'm a little shocked that more fans don't think it's a huge deal. The situation is bad enough that OT left in the middle of the night for gods sakes.

The question is whether the NCAA will actually punish a major institution? If OU and USC are not severely punished - both repeat offenders still on probation - then the NCAA is a sham. The NCAA knows there credibility and pocketbooks are on the line.

Since when does the NCAA have credibility? And as far as money goes they are not going to cut off the hand that feeds them. I am prediciting a one year post season ban and a 2 year scholarship loss.

That's my prediction as well. :(

Some of our fans always have excuses. Lets see if OSU or Texas had an assistant coach who had contact with a 3rd party and that 3rd party helped pay a bill, we would be screaming about probation. Why would an OU assistant have made contact with this individual over 50 times. Lets not kid ourselves there is a lot of smoke. I believe the NCAA will give us severe penalties in basketball and guess what we deserve it. Our compliance department needs a major change.

Nobody is disputing that, IF it happened, we should, and will face a stiff penalty from the NCAA. IMO, we used all our scholarships so the NCAA could not take them away. I don't believe the NCAA will tell a kid that already has a scholarship he can't go to college. If they do then they are proving academics do not matter. Myself, like others on the board simply want everyone to wait until this matter is handled, and punishment is delivered before we start talking about firing Joe C, Capel, the compliance department, or anyone else.

Now if I had to guess on what would happen IF we are found guilty, then I would say no post season this year and maybe the next, can't have the open scholarship from Cade's graduation, and a loss of prolly 2 the next two years after that. So a total of 5 lost scholarships, and 1 or 2 year post season ban.

TMZ reported what was already known. The NCAA was already WAAAAY aware of this. TMZ only made it public...

do you know that for a fact or speculating? Was the reason TG was suspended midseason due to the loan or over shoes?

There is a whistleblower out there trying to sell the whole story.
