EDMOND — Edmond Santa Fe junior point guard Jo’Nah Johnson saw the entire team struggling throughout the first half Friday night.

She had seen enough, determined to take over the game in the second half.

Johnson scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to propel No. 6 Santa Fe past Edlam rival No. 15 Edmond North 47-38 for coach Paul Bass’ 300th career victory.

“I just saw the open gaps and started pulling up in the mid-range, which is a great part of the game because it was wide open,” Johnson said. “Why not shoot it?” The Wolves (15-2) fought off an improved Edmond North (11-6) team late in the fourth.

The Huskies were within one with 5:25 remaining until Johnson rattled off six straight points to take command.

Santa Fe struggled mightily in the first half, going 0 for 11 from 3-point range. Johnson broke the drought with a 3-pointer with 3:45 remaining in the third.

“We took probably too many outside shots, which a lot of teams want us to do, and then lack of rebounding,” Bass said. “We finally figured it out, running some offenses that worked and started rebounding and then got some life.”

Edmond North led the game six different times behind a balanced attack. Kamri Heath led the way with 12 points, and Veronica Harjo followed with 11.

ESF: Johnson 20, Brown 10, Foy 4, Nero 4, Cooper 4, Mack 3, S. Jones 2.
EN: Heath 12, Harjo 11, Dilks 6, Hoffman 6, Burdge 2, Hankins 1
