Football question

Get to 8 wins, Fire BB, DM, and JJF, go find a good qb who can compete for a starting spot in the portal. If BV does that I’ll stick with him one more year

Defense stepped up in the second half against a great offense. We get screwed out of 3 points by a horrible roughing the passer call but defense played well enough.

The offense just isn’t good enough. We gave away an easy 2 point conversion. We get the ball inside the redzone after an ole Miss goof and can’t score a TD. Mateer is a tough kid but a lower level QB. Hes also not a very smart player and makes too many dumb mistakes. OL is just bad, although they were better in The second half.

Complete team loss. Offense sputtered the first half. Mateer made bad decisions and inaccurate throws. Defense got gashed for huge plays, and after they were given the lead in the third quarter, they immediately gave up a long touchdown drive on the biggest possession of the season. Special teams with a dagger turnover and multiple other negative plays. Add in the usual pre-snap penalties and game management issues, and it was a Venables special.

0-2 against the two best teams we have played, one of whom isn’t actually very good.

I don’t want to beat my chest but I got roasted for bringing up my concerns after the first game. It was obvious he would struggle in the SEC
Yeah for a guy that’s been in Arbuckle’s system a couple of years he doesn’t see the field any better than Arnold did…or didn’t.

Another brutal loss.

Goin by the numbers, we should have won this game.

Stupid mistakes. Stupid decisions.
Time for BV to resign back to DC or be canned

And lol at mateer. He’s a scrub
We should have seen it coming with his record against ranked opponents

Take your pick.
Defense got gashed in the opening half by the first really good offense it played.
OUr O can't stay on the field. At one point it was 66 plays to 34.
O turns it around, D let's them go right down the field to re-take the lead.
Needlessly going for two in the third quarter.
Receivers don't get open and, when they do, Mateer misses them.
Soul-crushing special teams turnover.

We're almost there. But if feels like we're much closer to blowing up the whole operation than getting over the proverbial hump.

I’m glad you mentioned the decision to go for two. Not sure why teams chase points before the fourth quarter, especially when you’re leading. The play call actually worked but of course Mateer threw a lawn dart.

I don’t agree that we are almost there, though. We are pretty much the same place where we have been for four years. Same mistakes at the same critical moments. Haven’t really made any progress there, and still not nearly enough difference makers on offense. And I think today confirmed what I feared: the defense is good. It isn’t elite.

Didn’t realize till I just heard the stats that we ran Mateer almost as often as both RBs combined. On a day when he averaged just over one yard per carry.

It wasn't working and we kept trying...... the playcalling was frustrating to me.
Clearly, running Mateer is just a big part of Arbuckle’s offense. But he’s just not good enough against SEC athletes to do it well. Arbuckle needs to stop being stubborn.
