Football question

I’m convinced there are very few smart coaches in football right now.

Unreal that miss state would kick to that returner

Comedy of errors starting with the roughing the passer penalty on a play that would have basically ended the game.

Props to Texas. They have played like garbage the past two weeks but are on the verge of winning ugly both times. Winning is a skill.

About the only real positive I took from this game is that (unlike Texas) the coaches made some good adjustments at halftime and we had a great 3rd quarter...some nice, hard running from Robinson. I don't have much else. I agreed with a lot of what Greg McElroy was saying in regards to not understanding why our CBs were playing so far off the receivers which resulted in several easy 3rd down conversions. McElroy was also spot on with his criticism of Arbuckle's play-calling and Mateer's decision-making. More troublesome than his decision-making was Mateer's accuracy. He was way off on most of his downfield throws. I saw more accuracy from the 1970s wishbone QBs.

So, here's the 64,000 question. With 4 ranked opponents to close out the regular season, how many does OU have to win for Venables to keep his job? A new AD will be hired soon. Another 6-7 or 7-6 record isn't a lot to be excited about. I think Brent as to at least be 8-4 in the regular season for the fan base to feel like there is at least some noticeable improvement.

Milroe was drafted in the 3rd round. Which is where this conversation started, so I guess we are in agreement.
You're still stuck on that? Hurts says he got better playing for Lincoln Riley, so no other opinion really matters after that. Yes, he could have been drafted slightly higher than the Round 6 that I projected if he stayed at Bama, but we'll obviously never know. We'll also never know if he would have developed into the QB he is if he stayed at Bama. As it is now, which of Nick Saban's QBs are lighting it up in the NFL?...besides of course, the guy who says "Roll Sooners" during introductions.

He’s staying another year. This is not the year for OU to get into the fray. I’m just hoping he’s forced to clean house on the offensive end.

McElroy also pointed out the fact that we had one or more of our best playmakers off the field on a couple of the key third and fourth downs. Truly bizarre stuff.

What’s the latest intel on when a new AD will be in place? My biggest fear is that Brent will survive another year simply because of the turnover in the AS’s office. If we end up, say, 7-5 in the regular season, he will have produced three of the worst seasons the program has had in decades. It’s truly unfathomable to me that so many people still defend him, make excuses, or place most of the blame on other coaches. In his four years, he has had four different offensive play callers. Four different starting quarterbacks. The entire roster has pretty much turned over, multiple times at many positions. He has been given a highly paid GM to help. The only thing that’s remained the same is the guy being paid to run the entire program.

Who do you think OU should go after if they fire BV?

You realize Roll Tide is an Alabama thing, right? He refuses to take a side.

Obviously...and he shouldn't take a side. He earned Bachelor's Degree at Alabama, plus started in two title games in his three years there. He also acknowledges the school he transferred to in going from a backup QB to the Heisman Trophy runner-up which propelled him into being a 2nd round draft pick. He might also know that Saban has produced three mid-high QB 1st round draft picks, none of which are above-average. Hurts is his best QB, and every Auburn fan loves trolling Tide fans that he had to transfer to OU to become a distinguished NFL QB.

Played like a top 10 team in the second half, but needed to play like a top 5 team. Just wasn't good enough.

Lane had BV's number in the first half, but BV made adjustments at half that flustered their offense in a way I didn't think was possible. I wanted a win, and this loss really stings, but that was two of the best minds in college football getting after it.

To say this team looks even remotely similar to last year is laughable. We're not where we want to be, but there's been clear progress. A couple weeks ago some called Arbuckle another Littrell based on no running game, but he found one, and now they're still yapping about that because...they don't know enough to hurl other insults? I'm sure they'll plagiarized all of Gabe's complaints after the pod tomorrow.

I expect to grab two more wins and finish 8-4.

I can't follow any of this logic, so I'm going to tap out.

Alabama turns average QBs into first round picks, and Hurts was the best one they had...but he wouldn't have been picked a mid-round draft pick? He went 27-2 as a starter as a freshman and sophomore, but he's the only one in a decade that NFL scouts have no interest in. There simply isn't any logic there.

The fumbled punt was devastating. We had momentum and the ball at midfield. Just a terrible unforced error.
The fumbled punt, the two penalties that pushed us back to our goal line prior to the safety, the awful "roughing the passer call." So many things that could have changed the game, but we have to be able to fight through bad breaks...and we did. Took a 26-25 lead but couldn't finish them.

We found a run game that was working. We completely abandoned it in the 4th quarter and didn’t score. We went back to the QB run and pass happy crap that hadn’t worked all day. Very frustrating.

XRob got FOUR carries after his home run. 4. Its just idiotic. DM is atrocious. The entire skills positions have been quietly worse than the OL.. Mims was our last decent receiver. Eric gray, our last decent RB..

Its crazy that Bauer Sharp and nic anderson are the 5th and 7th guys on a bad LSU team.. sharp was our LEADING RECEIVER for an entire season ... these guys are unmitigated bums and/or arent being developed at all. Burks has been killing this team bc he was brought in to be a marquis brown and instead hes a JAG. Javian Hester doesn't even play at all at Kentucky and he was our #2 receiver..

If DM had Adrian Peterson hed still do a RB by committee and give him less carries than mateer each game. DM needs to go, idc that he played at OU. That why you DON'T hire ou connections

I think Xrob and blaylock are very talented. Blaylock is still a freshman and learning. The WR and TE are so mediocre to bad. We have to find more talent there. OL found some things that were working but we went away from it for some reason

For the record, I hate this G5 offense. I strongly believe in being physical in everything and whatever we do, we have to have a strong physical run game and we can’t be one dimensional.
