True. He still runs into the backs of his blockers too often but he was great on that last drive. He played well.I was as negative as anybody about Barnes in the opener, but he was unquestionably our best RB against Michigan. Weird to see all the complaints.
It's not about saving a year for him at OU, it's about not wasting TWO years at OU for the kid's career, even if he ends up transferring. You do everything you can to get him meaningful reps in case of injury, and if you have to play him 3 more games prior to the postseason, you burn that redshirt without hesitation. He has at least 2 more years of eligibility even if you burn it, and there's zero chance he stays here 5 years.
Really? How?I don't blame BV for it, but we did Hawkins a little dirty last year.
By basically playing him just enough to burn his redshirt, and not much more. One of three things needed to happen:Really? How?
Dude was a true freshman that got real playing time. He did ok under the circumstances and had a real shot to take the job and never look back.
From everything we have seen of BV, I highly doubt he would have thrown him out there without Hawkins wanting that chance.
And Hawkins knew that if he stayed this year, he would be behind mateer.
And I am assuming BV will not jeopardize his redshirt unless MH gives the OK
Oh he drives me nuts...feels like Marcus Major 2.0 at times. But he's our best pass blocker. Almost feels like he'll run for 4 yards whether we're playing a top 10 or bottom 10 DL, whereas Blaylock makes inferior opponents pay. But we won't have many of those starting next week.True. I don't blame BV for it, but we did Hawkins a little dirty last year. To do the same this year and essentially waste two years of eligibility so he could start about 5 games combined, that is less than ideal.
I try to play him in one game, either Temple or Kent State, then I'm saving him until the end of the season.
So puzzlingDoes anyone know how much Nagy spent on Ott?
Mental midget. Can’t block. Can’t reward mediocrity. So puzzling
It appears so. Maybe he’ll surprise us later in the season, but, for now, he should be scout team. Atleast he’s getting paid.Mental midget. Can’t block. Can’t reward mediocrity.
Bad investment. It happens.
Barnes’ entire career is an exercise in rewarding mediocre (or worse) play. Yes, I know, he can pass block. Blah blah blah. He should NOT be our starter. If Ott isn’t the guy, Blaylock needs to be running out with the starters from this point forward unless he just continues to be DeMarco’s pet.Mental midget. Can’t block. Can’t reward mediocrity.

He started 1-2 possessions but Blaylock clearly the dude. Start vs who plays the most matters.Barnes’ entire career is an exercise in rewarding mediocre (or worse) play. Starting matters, too. Again, every otter position coach puts the best guys on the field to start. DeMarco can’t seem to get over Barnes. If it happens going forward against real teams, it’s a problem. Can’t give away possessions with your best guy standing on the sideline. He started 1-2 possessions but Blaylock clearly the dude. 14 vs 5 Carries. Blaylock the guy.
Who feels optimistic about the run game? Saying Barnes was our best against Michigan is not the same thing as being optimistic.3rd & 1 against Temple and we have Barnes on the field and Mateer takes a hit on a QB run. Hard to see how some of you feel optimistic about the run game.

There were a couple posters this week who said they were confident or optimistic that the run game is going to be good. I’m terrible about searching through threads to find old posts but I promise I’m not imagining it. I wasn’t implying you were one of them, by the way.Who feels optimistic about the run game?
