Football question

Throwing motion can 100% be fixed. Not in the middle of the season though. That's a recipe for disaster. Especially for a quick reaction player like Mateer. He could end up getting to much in his own head and hurting his reaction time trying to focus on mechanics. That style of QB play is a fine line between Elite and Average. Caleb Williams is a prime example of a QB teetering on that line.

Mateer has been solid. But it shows what a joke the Heisman machine has become because he was leading pretty much every straw poll.
Makes you wonder who votes on such things.

Agreed. I've been happy to have him, but he would be one of the most underwhelming Heisman's I can remember. Having said that, leading us on a game winning drive with a broken hand a banged up knee is the stuff of legend.

It ultimately comes down to the fact that all the supposed star QBs have been underwhelming.

As most have said, a month is a reasonable time frame if it's truly just a broken metacarpal and not further damage. 2.5 weeks against Texas isn't impossible, but it's not something to hold out hope for.

At the end of the day, if we can find a way to split with UT and SC, we're sitting pretty at 6-1 if Mateer is fully healthy. Given the injury sympathy, we'd essentially be a lock for the playoffs at 9-3.

You never want to see your QB1 go down for a month, but this is literally the best time of the year to have it happen, with basically 2.5 weeks until our first game. Kent State is a win either way, and quite frankly, even with Mateer we were going to have our hands full against Texas. I never want to lose to Texas under any circumstances, and am not saying we necessarily will, but if we're going to do it, I'd rather it be with our backup QB. Hawkins looked completely lost in limited reps against Temple, but there is a world where 2.5 weeks of UT prep could catch them off guard especially knowing BV will be floating the possibility of Mateer returning all week so that they don't know who to prep for.

Honestly the roughest games to be without Mateer are the ones like Michigan, Auburn, SC, and MIzzou. In those we can quickly flip from favorites to underdogs without Mateer.

OU recruiting strategy seems to be working. We’re gaining quite a bit of momentum and it feels like things have finally changed for the better.

I do think Kent State will be the game where we find out whether Ott will be any factor going forward. At this point, I look at him like Bigfoot -- I won't believe he exists till I see it with my own eyes on a Saturday with the scoreboard on and fans in the stands.

if he gives the same effort he did in the temple game .. he is not going to earn any extra playing time ..

College football has shifted. The high-flying offenses have all but gone away. It's trended back to how it was before that in more teams are trying to control the clock and win with good defense. Offensive stats are going to be down as a result.

I also think with realignment and the CFP, teams are playing tougher schedules. NIL has created more parity.

I'm rewatching the Auburn game: a few things.

1. my junior high team ran a version of the Sategna play....so I don't see the big deal. We called it "sleeper". Our coaches went to the refs before the game and said, "hey, we might try this". I was the Santegna, I played split end/flanker in the Veer terminology. For some reason I don't remember our normal Jr. high kickoff and field got moved to the high school and full on night game. I scored the TD under the high school stadium lights. Our QB was not a great thrower and under threw the ball I got destroyed. but for me: Glory. The cheerleader, Lori M, who sat behind me in math.....she liked it. hey.
2. big ups to our kicking game so far, P/K (no jinx)
3. I liked how in the first half once how a lot of Arbuckle's side to side stuff was either ineffective, or just getting blown up by AU's speed/athleticism/strength/size.....2nd half he took what they gave and we sustained drives. not for TD's, but I thought taking the points was solid both times. Too many times last year we "went for it" and it didn't happen.
4. Great win, loved it. The safety was a blast but I thought we better on 4th down they throw an incompletion and we take possession inside the 10.
5. Arnold threw a few great passes. Good for him. good ball protection. Hugh Freeze I get he thinks he got bad officiating but he seems like a cranky dude.. Not I guy I would play for. The 4th and 1 AU score on.....they jump but the play they have called there are 3 Sooners who are on that RB deep in the backfield....no way AU score. the penalty was a blessing for him. Still he's crying.

Man Auburn couldn’t move the ball at all against A&M. Coleman with four catches for 18 yards and the team had 177 yards of total offense.

Auburn’s penalties are just crazy. Almost every drive was killed with penalties.
A&m had more.

JA is a terrible QB. He is going to set all school records for sacks given up against teams he plays bc he is too slow and indecisive.. terrible 5 star rating

The other troubling part is realizing how well A&M ran it against Auburn.

Always enjoy seeing Penn St struggle. Dan Lanning going for the throat and going for it on fourth down rather than settling for a FG. Love it!

Totally. They did so well they scored 16 points.

Auburn is a good football team and they have some dudes that can play. Arnold is NOT a good QB and can’t function in the passing game, which isn’t good for a QB. Hes really holding back their offense. I bet those NFL WR are pissed. They should transfer to OU.

Going for it in OT when they’re down 7? What a gutsy call. LOL. You’re a weird dude.
