Football question

Huh? You don’t think labeling someone as a first round pick after four mediocre games speaks to his credibility as an analyst? And how about all the other examples I gave of him pumping up guys as “dogs” and “difference makers?” Is Hicks our star running back yet? Is Gibson jumping over guys and coming down with 50/50 balls because of his size and athleticism? The list goes on and on. I can’t think of a single skill guy he has been right about over the past three years. He is either a terrible judge of talent, incapable of being impartial when it comes to OU, or a combination thereof.
Before the 2023 season, Ikard predicted that DG would set the OU single season career passing efficiency record…it’s Murray in 2018, which was an NCAA record until Burrow broke it. Daniels and Mac Jones have broken it too but it’s got to be top 8 in the history of CFB. DG is fine but a top 10 season of all time lol!

Glad he supports OU (definitely need the NIL coordination) but he has absolutely insane takes sometimes.

OU would dominate the Big12 and cruise to a big12 title with this team. Texas tech and Cincinnati are two of the best teams and we would kick the crap out of both and Utah and byu and everyone else. It wouldn’t be close. Then we might win a playoff game until we played an actual good team that would beat us.

You’re also talking about his first team, which sucked. His second team was better and if not for some BS in Stillwater, would’ve played for the big12 title. This years team would kill the big12.

You’re just being obtuse, as usual. You wouldn’t acknowledge anything good about OU under BV.
Nope, I am talking about his second team. His team that had a better QB, better WRs, and a more productive running game than the current team. They lost in Lawrence (to a KU team playing without their starting QB) because of the worst game plan and most ridiculously conservative coaching I have ever seen.

And find me anywhere where I said the Big 12 is the same as the SEC. It is telling that you have to make things up (read: lie) in order to make your point. We would of course finish higher in the Big 12 than the SEC. We are a bottom-half-of-the-league team in the SEC. We would be much better than that in the Big 12. But your talking point is that we would dominate the Big 12 and win it easily.

When Brent is fired (hopefully after this season), I think we should all remember the sequence against Ole Miss as his crowning moment. Tie game, 10:00 minutes or so left in the second quarter, and here is what transpires:

Ole Miss in 3rd-and-14, the crowd going crazy and all the momentum in our favor: Brent calls timeout, presumably because he didn't get the right players on the field or get the play call in in time
Timeout concludes, we sack them for a massive loss, but our star DE is offside (read: undisciplined, pre-snap penalty, and not his first)
Ole Miss gains a few yards, and instead of punting from their own 25, punts from close to midfield
On the punt, we commit our 459th punt return penalty of the season, backing us up even farther (if only someone could coach this stuff)
TV timeout, giving us nearly 3 minutes to prep for our possession
First down, a nice gain . . . negated because of, you guessed it, a pre-snap penalty.
1st-and-13 at the two . . . SAFETY!

Five mistakes in a span of five snaps, all of which are either directly or indirectly related to coaching. I pointed out this exact kind of stuff last week when asked what I think Brent deserves blame for. But some of you just want to laugh it off or call me negative, After all, we beat Kent State and Illinois State and Temple, so why worry about "small" stuff.

And before this season, he said Thomas would break the single season sack record. I can't recall some of the others but you're right, it's downright silly.

People are giving Ole Miss too much credit. Credit to them for winning close games but I really don't think they are a great team.
7 point win vs kentucky
6 point win vs arkansas
5 point win vs lsu
3 point win vs wsu
10 point loss @ georgia (should have won)
And Tennessee is likely better than Ole Miss, which is why we had to win that game at home.

I remember him saying that is RMT's goal.
And I remember maybe him picking that for one of his bold predictions.
But I don't remember him actually saying he thought he would do it

He's gor 4.5 sacks in 4 conference games, with believe one or two more being negated by unrelated penalties. If he'd feasted on weak noncon teams like Illinois State, Cedric' single season record would absolutely be in play.

If my aunt had testicles, she would be my uncle. But alas.

But just to clarify, your point is that if he had a lot more sacks than he actually has, he might get the record. True. Burned me there.

You've just encapsulated why I don't believe we will ever be a "buttoned up" team under the direction of BV. I believe 2023 was the more damning example of this. A chance to go undefeated and you absolutely give 2 games away against subpar competition with undisciplined play, mental mistakes, and bad decisions/turnovers. We have seen improvement in certain areas this year and we can all acknowledge that. But this team still has the too often propensity to "shoot itself in the foot".

I hope he proves me wrong, but we are now in year 4 and we are still seeing some of the same stupidity since day one. I almost feel like we are cursed.

The school record for sacks in conference games is still in play. Barring injury, there's almost no way he falls outside the top 5. Don't do a victory dance prematurely.

That wasn’t the prediction or the discussion. It was the full season sack record. He played in all of the noncon games and had his chance to pad his stats, and didn’t record a single sack. If he puts up huge numbers in the next four games and makes me eat my words, I’ll be the first to come on here and do it. I always show up on the board when my predictions/arguments are proven wrong.

I’ll never forget that KU game. I can’t even guess how many sporting events I’ve attended in person, let alone the games I’ve watched on television. It was, without exaggeration, the worst coached game I’ve ever seen. Not playing Walker in the first quarter. Completely taking the game out of the hands of Gabriel, who was one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the country. Twice not having 11 guys on the field for a punt, one leading to a penalty and the other a timeout. Having a defensive lineman in position to field a kickoff when the wind was howling and you knew the kick would be short. Getting a sideline penalty in the fourth quarter of a one-score game. And after Walker got hurt, choosing Barnes rather than Sawchuk … who, one week later, started his tear of 100-yard games. The final, almost laughable thing: in desperation mode with a few seconds left, we ran play action.

Which reminds me: the reason we got within Hail Mary range was because we hit a bomb to Brennan Thompson to start the drive. I think we threw him about one or two passes per game. Anyone notice his numbers this season? Think we could use a legit game breaker on the outside?

I remember Cedric Jones had 5 sacks in ONE GAME, but it was non-conference (Texas Tech was not yet in the Big XII). Since they started keeping track of QB sacks (they weren't when Lee Roy Selmon was playing), Cedric is definitely the gold standard. Basically playing with one eye (95% blind in the other) wound up hurting Cedric on the next level, but he was a heckuva college player. R Mason Thomas is just not on his level because he DISAPPEARS way too often. We would all love for him to step up his game and be more consistently disruptive. Let's hope it starts this weekend.

Yeah, I would never say RMT is on a tier with folks like Selmon, and 14 sacks wasn't ever highly probable. But Beal is in the top 5, and highest of the past 25 years, which is still very much in play. As mentioned, the conference play sack record is still in play as well.

It's common sense their hot takes are going to lean positive for OU, but RMT isn't one to mock him for. He's had an excellent year, arguably the best pass rusher in the country, and some records may still fall. If there is one thing Gabe and Teddy didn't miss on, it's the DL.
