to make the correct decision PLEASE remember this..........and heed my words!

He's the guy who hired Jeff Capel..........

Capel looked good on paper at the time.
And if you believe the reports, Joe's list may have been extremely short/limited.
If he passes on Billy Clyde this time around, and picks another dud, he should be fired.

Yes, he is, but everybody makes mistakes. I hope he's learned his lesson.

From recent reports, the basketball program has been losing money but I would bet if Joe had hired a proven coach when he hired Capel, the program would have made money the last 5 years.

I know you feel otherwise 04, but I don't think Joe hired Capel to "save money."

Even though OU is a darn good job, it obviously isn't going to pull experienced coaches away from either a) better schools, or even b) similiar, more basketball-based schools.

I don't think he'd have had any problems hiring an experienced coach at whatever Kelvin was making, but none of those guys were coming to OU. The next best thing you can do is try to find a good young coach to come continue building the program. That is what Joe did, he just picked the wrong guy. But I've never looked at it as Joe being "cheap". Remember, Kelvin was probably a pretty cheap hire when he came over, as was Billy.

I'll also add that I thought Capel was a good hire at the time. I thought it was a really good hire. It didn't take long into the first season for my opinion to change on that though.

I just grow weary at those who think Ca$tiglione has a perfect record at hiring coaches for us. Ultimate faith in Joe C! Bleh. He hired a dude for volleyball (Kehlani....?) that may have had the worst winning percentage for any coach in the history of the school. His first men's golf hire (Ragan) was a complete dud.

I hope he takes his time with this one and gets it right because we're teetering on the abyss right now.

Agreed.

I don't give a **** if we never win another women's volleyball match or golf tournament. The only two hires that Joe Castiglione has made that matter are Bob Stoops and Jeff Capel. One was a smashing success while the other has been an unmitigated flop. Since Castiglione did get it right on Stoops and has been a tremendous fundraiser for the athletic department, we aren't going to hold the Capel hire against him. Instead, we're going to count on him to undo his mistake and get it right this time.

Well, I care about the whole of the Athletic Department. If they have Sooners on their chest, I care about them a great deal.

+1 The Sooner fan that says they don't care about other sports at OU are Wal-Mart fans. They r only going to be around for the good times and disappear during bad times.

Well, aren't you just the best Sooner ever? Please. Football and men's basketball are what bring money into a university's athletic department and raise its reputation around the country. Anyone who believes otherwise is misguided. Is it nice when we win at other sports? Yes. Does it hurt the school if we don't? Nope.

Oh, **** off. You don't get to decide who is a true Sooner fan and who isn't. I wish all the non-revenue sports very well in their pursuit of championships. I'm just honest enough to admit that success in football and men's basketball means a whole hell of a lot more than success in those sports.

Although, I realize FB/MBB pay the bills, this is the kind of "fan" we DON'T need...
