For All Those Putting Ultimate Faith in Joe Ca$tiglione

And don't get me started on the South Carolina game from last year's CWS. Ugh!

Speaking of baseball, Ca$tiglione is batting .500 there too. Let's not forget the Gene Stephenson debacle.

So maybe that's the key: some of his first hires have been garbage but he's corrected the mistake on the second go-round. Maybe he'll do the same in men's basketball.

Really, the Gene Stephenson thing wasn't his fault. Stephenson was the one who got cold feet. Can't really blame Joe for that...

No, I'm just a Sooner fan. It may not hurt the school's bottom line when we lose, but it hurts me. I'm still not over Redman giving up that homer to JD Drew and that was nearly 16 years ago.

I can remember a bunch of bedlam baseball and wrestling losses that stung every bit as much as any bedlam football or basketball loss.

Because Stephenson got cold feet?

And right now we have the number 2 team in the nation coming off a trip to the CWS.

Our softball team has been in the tournament the last several years.
Our tennis team made the final 8 last season. We all know about the football team.

I think it's silly to criticize Joe C. like this when he is widely regarded as the best or one of the best ADs in the business.

And don't forget that 2 years ago this week we were all begging Joe C. to give Capel a big fat raise and extension.

I think what '04 is getting at here with these secondary sport hires is it shows patterns of evaluating coaching talent...regardless if they are money makers he still has to make decisions in bringing in coaches that will win...It just adds to his body of work and him not being a golden calf...

Stephenson would have been a great hire. He's a big time coach and his pitching coach is very good, too.

Now, I'm not complaining with the way it's worked out as Sunny is doing just fine.

Oh come on... a Bedlam baseball will NEVER hurt as much as a football loss. The baseball loss means very little in the grand scheme of the season, unlike football.

I'm not a huge wrestling fan so I have no comment on that.

Don't try to add any level-headedness to this discussion...

Clown posts abound on this thread. Maybe it's because Joe C out could very well mean Stoops gone, then they get to spew thoughtless negativity on twice as many message boards as they do now.

I'm guessing Arizona Wildcat alums say a prayer of thanksgiving everyday for Joe C giving Capel that big fat raise

Serious question: is the above English? I read it three times and have no clue as to the point you're trying to convey.

Some serious truth to this on several levels. I'm frightened by the day he leaves b/c Bob has said it several times throughout his tenure how great Joe C and Boren are and it makes his job the best job in America.

The negativity comment is spot on too.

The 95, 97, and 98 bedlam football losses meant nothing but we had plenty of bedlam baseball losses in the Big 8 tournament final that meant possible home-field advantage for the NCAA. We lost those games and were always shipped out to Mississippi State, or Texas which at that time were tough environments to go play with a chance to advance to the CWS.

I especially remember sitting at All-Sports stadium when we had Jack Armstrong. The finals of the Big 8 tournament. All we had to do was finish off the 9th and we are winning the tourney and playing at home for the regional. We bring in our ace, Armstrong, in relief because he had stymied OSU all season long. He gives up a bunch of hits and enough run to allow OSU to win the game in the 9th and forced a 2nd final game which we lost soundly.

I will say that loss was as painful as any of the above mentioned football losses.

Wrestling...the year Dr. Death was pinned in Gallagher Hall by the big fat OSU wrestler which cost us the match. I'm talking early 80's on this one. That was more painful than any of the above mentioned football losses.

I was there too.
That was a tough loss.

My dad and I used to go to a bunch of baseball games back in the day. Enos Semore and my dad were really good friends. In fact, my dad hired some baseball players back in the day to basically watch the irrigation and make sure the crops were getting watered as much as they needed. :ez-laugh:

I am rather sick of hearing about how Joe C. is so amazing. He has made some bumbling choices just like most other AD's so it's not like he's infallible.

He needs to get his ass in gear and get this issue resolved. I am tired of our suckitude on the court.

OK, I'll slow down. Thanks for reading it three times.

Stoops is here solely because of Joe C. He is also pretty good. If you got your wish, maybe Stoops would leave. Maybe you would like that, because you could continue to rant about how much OU sucks. Except since we would also suck in football, you could talk about it on a football board too. A football board plus a basketball board equals two boards. Two boards is twice as many opportunities for people like you to spout off unrehearsed crap.

Got it?
