Future of Moser

The goal should be to not be a bubble-type team. I'm not asking for 1, 2, or 3 seeds. But surely we can consistently get to the 5-9 seed area. So in that capacity, yes, we still have some work to do.

Getting there 100% by playing an easier schedule doesn't give me the warm fuzzies.

Also don't think we'll lose 4 fewer games in the SEC, all things even. SEC sent as many teams to the Dance as the Big 12 did.
Yea assuming we would have won four more games in the SEC this season is bold. We have no idea exactly which teams we would have played twice. We avoided having to play Houston and Baylor twice. In any event, I see no reasonable likelihood we would have gone 12-8 in that league. The argument I have seen people make is that the SEC is weaker at the bottom. Well, we went 5-1 against the weak teams in our current league, so that wasn’t the problem. Our issue is not being able to beat the good teams. Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, etc … I don’t see us doing much better against them than we did against Baylor and Houston and ISU, or even KU in a down season.

And that's the same I've seen on the insider sites.
And that, while it may be true (or may not), doesn't tell us how we stack up against other schools, specifically some of the ones on my list.

There aren't enough players and there isn't enough money for everybody to be killing us in NIL. We know there are schools that have worse recruiting than us, better coaching, and are getting better results. That is really the point I'm trying to make.

Look at older posts in the thread, I addressed that.

Sometimes it’s ok to be a fan instead of an insider. Any fan can see this stuff stinks right now and it doesn’t appear to be getting better.

We are talking moser. We are talking shep. Woah! Same day travel is stupid. It’s old way of thinking.

He wasn’t ran off: Ou did help him get that job. Left mid year bc that’s when the new job was open. They paid him till he found a good job.

keep making stuff up to fit your narrative.

What I’m saying is 100 percent true. I gave Moser a chance this year. However his track record of managing people is a disaster. I went and rechecked the Shep nugget I dropped and I’m right, OU didn’t help him get a job and he hated working for Moser.

Wondering how much assistant coaching turnover has hurt him too.

Look at the coaches on that first staff. Look at the coaches he has now. Pretty big difference. That was one of my initial concerns with hiring Moser. He actually put a pretty good first staff together, and I think I gave him credit for that. But it's been on the decline ever since that first season.

Joe C. has made an entire legacy off of walking on the job to Kelvin Sampson and John Blake's recruits. He is a dimishing returns AD at this point.

Focusing solely on low hanging fruit, i.e. softball.

Porter is a dead man walking. No way he makes the tourney two years in a row. (And that is what it will take to stay employed).

I’m entirely disappointed with his reluctance to move on from Moser, but I think some of the Joe C bashing has gotten a bit ridiculous. People are acting like it’s easy to win championships in every sport other than football and men’s hoops. If that were the case, more schools would have cracked the code. Do you think SEC and PAC 12 schools wouldn’t love to do what OU softball has done? Outside of men’s hoops and possibly football, the programs are doing very well. I don’t know if/why men’s hoops appears to be a blind spot for him, but again, to act like he has succeeded for 25 years based on one coach and some football players who are now in the late 40s is ridiculous.

So, OU is doing well outside of the two that matter? Awesome.

I think most serious programs could care less about softball. It's a nice to have but shouldnt be one of the primary focuses of your athletic department.

Its a crutch for OU's AD.

Ok dude. So even though the top 25 is usually littered with SEC teams, you think serious programs don’t care about it?

Fair points. But I think a lot of the Joe C bashing has to do with the fact that he hasn’t moved on from Moser. I think people would be praising Joe C for doing what needs to be done for the program if he fired Moser.

I think the ball had started rolling on that, but it looked like we were going to make it. I'm guessing if Joe C knew how it all would shake out, Moser would likely be at DePaul right now.

I agree, I just can’t believe anyone would seriously claim that we are basically only winning championships in certain sports because no other schools are trying.

You’re probably right. The reality is, it’s worst case scenario for both Moser and the OU basketball program. I have this feeling that next year is going to his obligatory hotseat year, before he gets fired. Which does not bode well for the program at all.

I’m obviously not too invested, but I would love to know what really went down with the whole Depaul thing. Obviously, there were enough rumors that something was going on but just seems like a strange situation.

No way hed get yet another year if/when he misses next year.. might as well shut it down permanently if that were the case

I’ve thought a lot about this. At least Capel’s last two years were such an unmitigated disaster that Joe had no realistic option to keep him. But now, since we showed marginal progress this season, and were expected to make the tournament till the last day, he will feel justified in keeping him and that will just waste another year.
